Stacey and the Fashion Victim Chapters 11-15

Aug 10, 2015 20:13

Stacey was nearly killed. No, she wasn’t. She was just exaggerating for drama and getting my hopes up. I’m just happy it wasn’t Dawn or Kristy. If I read, “I nearly got killed,” in a Dawn or Kristy book only to realize I was being faked out, I would have thrown my laptop and I can’t afford a new one. Well, I probably can, but I’m trying to save my money. Anyway, Stacey says what happened was pretty dramatic. Yeah, there are times when I try to make a story sound more dramatic than it is. I’m not sure if I succeed.

Anyway, back to the maybe near death experience. I’m surprised Mallory didn’t have a near death experience and then have the BSC get on her case for missing meetings or have the BSC mock her for getting into a near death experience. Stacey and the other models are getting made up for the shoot and Harmony’s mom is fussing because the skirt is too short. Harmony is annoyed at her mom’s fussing and tries to tell her it’s fine, but her mom won’t listen. Harmony stomps off and I can relate to the whole, “My parent is not listening to me,” thing. There have been times I try to tell my mom that I don’t want to do something and she keeps insisting and I’m like, “Fuck this shit, you win.”

Sydney is just sitting around trying to find a fuck. Stacey says Sydney doesn’t share secrets and I’m guessing that means she doesn’t blurt out her life’s story to everyone she meets like the BSC does. I’m just imagining the BSC cornering me to tell me about their club and their members. I can see it now. I would be trapped in the conversation because I’m too shy and polite to end a conversation. I totally would have moved if I met the BSC.

There’s going to be a big fashion show, so everyone is being extra nice to Mrs. Maslin, but it’s all just an act. It kind of reminds me of customer service. I can’t say what I really think to the customer’s face- I have to be polite and enthusiastic. It’s not like I can say, “Bitch, either buy something or fuck off.”Stacey isn’t joining in on trying to get in on the fashion show because Kristy would kill her if she showed an interest in a non BSC activity. Stacey teases us some more about her near death experience and I’m like, “Just get on with it.” I’m not feeling intrigued because Stacey is narrating and she seems to be fine. I also know the BSC’s penchant for exaggeration. They’d be complaining about how this job was such a disaster when the only thing that happened was that the kids spilled some water.

There’s going to be a photo shoot on the roof. Stacey says there’s a metal railing on the roof. I’m surprised she isn’t taking the time to talk about how the view sucks because it’s not New York and everything that isn’t New York sucks but you aren’t allowed to think New York is cool because showing excitement is for unsophisticated babies. And then Stacey talks shit about the view. Fucking hell, I was joking. Then again, I really shouldn’t be surprised. Stacey always takes the opportunity to talk about how superior New York is. I was about to ask that if all she could do is talk shit about places that weren’t New York, why she didn’t move back before I remembered Kristy would kill her and force feed her Kool Aid.

It’s kind of jarring to hear Stacey mention the World Trade Centers. Harmony and Stacey are supposed to do a shoot. Harmony and Stacey are going to lean against the rail, but the rail breaks and they fall.

Chapter 12

They didn’t die. I just had the horrible feeling that if a BSC member did die, Kristy’s first thought would be that they’re short handed. Stacey and Harmony didn’t even fall a foot because they landed on an awning. So that was your near death experience-falling about a foot? That seems as dangerous as falling out of your bed and as far as I’m aware no one has died from falling out of their bed. Maybe they have. I probably would have been shaken up if the rail had broken and been really thankful I landed on the awning. Yesterday I nearly got hit in the head with the trunk of my mom’s car when I was putting groceries in the truck. I moved away in time, but I still got hit. I was grateful that I didn’t get hit on the head too hard. I wasn’t going to go around saying I nearly got knocked out putting groceries away. Something happened, it could have been worse, I was grateful it wasn’t.

Harmony’s mom complains about Bellairs not maintaining their equipment properly and that she’ll sue. As usual Mrs. Maslin doesn’t want to believe that anything is going on. Harmony is trying to tell her mom that someone is after her because she’s been poisoned and getting threatening notes, but Mrs. Skye just dismisses her. I get the feeling that Harmony could be severely injured and all her mom would only care about her being able to model. Harmony is chosen to be Princess Bellair and doesn’t look too happy. Stacey wonders why. Maybe because she doesn’t want to do modeling and her pushy mother is forcing her to do it? You know, kind of how your cult forces kids to do things you want to do.

Harmony gets frustrated because she’s trying to tell her mom something, but her mom isn’t listening. Maybe you’re being too subtle. Subtlety does not work on my mom. I’ve tried hinting to her numerous times that I don’t want to do something and she kept brushing me off and insisting that I do it before I just outright said I didn’t want to do the thing. Of course, outright saying I don’t want to do something doesn’t always work because she’ll still bother me to do it. I have yet to convince her that I don’t want to wear blush.

The BSC gathers to discuss suspects. Abby brings up the fact that no one has gotten hurt, so maybe the culprit just wants to scare the models. Stacey figures out who the culprit might be and tells the BSC she needs them to set a trap.

Chapter 13

Stacey’s plan is to hide in the room until someone comes to do something suspicious. She hears a noise and she and the rest of the BSC jump out. I would have laughed so hard if it turned out to be someone else just touching up their makeup or checking something and doing something entirely harmless and mundane. It would have been hilarious if the BSC jumped out screaming, “Aha! We’ve caught you!” Only for the person to be like, “I was just putting on lipstick, you gang of shrieking banshees.”

No, Stacey has caught the culprit. It’s Harmony. Harmony doesn’t really seem to care that she’s caught, so that dampens Stacey’s enjoyment of solving the mystery. Stacey talks about how she solved the mystery-Harmony didn’t want to be a model any more, her mom wouldn’t let her quit, Harmony decided to show how dangerous modeling was in the hopes that her mom would let her quit. Yeah, with the way her mom’s acted, I get the feeling people could start murdering models and Mrs. Skye would still be like, “As long as Harmony can still model.”

Mary Anne tells Harmony that she has to tell her mom that she doesn’t want to model anymore. I’d have been like, “Bitch, don’t tell me how to manage my family business-you don’t know me.” Mary Anne says that they’ll help. What the fuck was she going to do-cry and make it all about her? How the hell is Mary Anne going to help in a confrontation? Harmony tells her mom that she doesn’t want to model anymore and her mom’s first reaction is to go, “This is nonsense,” and try to convince Harmony not to give up modeling. I don’t see you doing anything, Mary Anne.

I was thinking that Mrs. Skye’s behavior reminds me of the BSC’s-pushing kids into doing activities they don’t want to do and then throwing a tantrum when the kids have their own ideas of fun. I’m kind of amused that there was a person who was pushing her kid into doing something that she didn’t want to do when the BSC does the same thing to their charges. How many times have they pushed Charlotte to go perform only for her to choke? You think they’d realize that some people don’t like performing and Charlotte is one of them, but not. Sometimes it’s really hard to tell people you don’t want to do something because they keep pushing you and pushing you and then when you snap, you’re the bad guy.

Chapter 14

The Smokeout was a success.

Chapter 15

I like how Cynthia and Stacey say that they’re friends. Unless Cynthia is going to join the BSC and pledge her eternal allegiance to Kristy, they aren’t friends. Mrs. Skye is finally coming around and has agreed to let Harmony stop modeling. Now if only the BSC would let the kids choose what they want to play. Mrs. Maslin’s daughter Emily might become a model when she’s older. Stacey feels a little bit wistful about Fashion Week ending, but decides that she likes her regular life better. Yeah, we can’t have someone trying out a new activity and thinking, “I really like this. I think I’ll join a club.” The only activities people are allowed to think is fun is babysitting.
