She whines that 11 is a perfectly fine age to have contacts because she's oh, so mature--I wear glasses and I'm happy with my glasses. I wouldn't wear contacts even if you paid me because I'm that squeamish with my eyes. I would think contacts would be something a person could have if they were old enough and mature enough to take good care of them. I think some 11 year olds might be mature enough to take good care of them, some not so much. Just depends on the person imo. Did Mallory ever ask for contacts or is she moaning and bitching about something she just ~assumes~ will be turned down ( ... )

The only time I'm sure she asked for contacts was in the Trouble with Twins book. And her parents said she was too young. I don't even remember when I got my first contacts but I was older than her. Maybe 15?

And yeah, I think her parents should have allowed some make-up. Brown eyeliner or a foundation. And I definitely think they should have allowed her to straighten her hair. That's no biggie and not a huge permanent change.

Now that I think on it, Mal is pretty much the only one who never got called pretty. I even remember Kristy being called pretty. But Mal gets 'sturdy'. And yeah, Dawn got an upgrade from plain to looking like a model. WTF was up with that? It probably correlates with her becoming a stuck-up pain in the ass.

You are on POINT about that Kristy would act the same way if she had a bad athlete on her team. It was KRISTY who bullied a kid into a competition where he ended up breaking his leg because she wanted to win so bad. So, basically, both Mal and K-Ron can go straight to Hell.

I was 11 when I got my contacts, but I was very mature when it came to taking care of stuff. And my parents were tired of me breaking glasses on horseback. I really think the second one was the deciding factor. :P

At 11 I was allowed to wear light colored lipstick, blush, pick out my hair cut, clothing, jewelry, etc. If my Mom thought I crossed the line, she said "no", but otherwise I was allowed to find my own style.

And yeah, I definitely think the way they fetishize Claudia and Stacey and Dawn and Jessi would be hard on the other members. I never remember them saying Mary Anne is pretty either, but she has a boyfriend, so that's all that counts, right? *gag* (I love guys, I enjoy dating and I want to get married in the near future, but shit, if you look to men for your only valdiation, you might as well change your name to Anastasia Steele and plan on being controlled your whole life.)

I personally think Mal IS mature enough to take care of contacts. I mean, she's a second mom to her siblings, right? So, I don't really get the Pikes saying no, she can't have them. Unless they think her Hell beast siblings will end up wrecking them.

When I was 11 I didn't have any interest in make-up but I was also allowed to have a say in my clothes, hair and jewelry. And some Pike parent rules seem a little weird. Like no sparkly sweaters? Why not? She didn't ask for a crop top that says 'Slut' on it.

And yeah, I don't remember a time that MA was called pretty. It was always about Logan. I think after both her make-overs they did say she looked good, but not pretty.

The sparkly sweater thing is stupid, imo. Tween girls love sparkles! Okay, I'm 32 and I love sparkles too, lol. Unless you're applying them to cover your otherwise unadorned genitalia, how can they be inappropriate? Mal is not asking to get Vajazzled, for cripe's sake!
