So, I'm just sitting around, waiting for October and decided to pass the time with a snark. It keeps my mind off the fact that I still have all of August to get through before things start cooling off. Living in Phoenix is just one big countdown for summer to be over. And really, one and a half months aren't so bad. But I'm dying for October because it's a favourite month. And The Walking Dead comes back on. If Daryl dies, we riot. Trigger warning again for gore.
Part 1! Part 2! Chapter 11!
Why the Hell are these girls so judgmental about the Prezziosos? Claudia has a sitting job with them and acts like she's making a huge sacrifice by doing so. She also says Mrs. P 'reeks of perfume'. God, shut up. And earlier on their mall trip, Stacey could smell Dawn's shampoo so why wasn't she reeking? And when Jenny sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to her doll, Claudia snots that that's not a real lullaby. What? I'm pretty sure it is if not damn close. God, poor Jenny can't do anything right in their eyes. And she's so cute! She named her baby doll Pee-Wee because that's her fave show.
As Jenny is brushing her teeth getting ready for bed, Claud hears some noise from downstairs. She freaks out and that's totally understandable. If I was home alone and I heard something and knew it couldn't be any of the pets, I'd probably freak too. It turns out the Prezziosos came home early because they ran into the Gorillas Gardellas at the party they were at. The Gardellas told them about the thing with Stacey and the Prezziosos got mad and came home early. Kinda makes your constant hating on their daughter look pretty petty now, huh Kishi? Mrs. P says she's sorry she can't pay her the full fee and Claudia isn't happy about it either. Would an extra six bucks be really a big difference? Aw, Hell, who am I kidding? I wish I had an extra six bucks right now so I could go to Taco Bell. Or buy one marker.
Chapter 12!
Stacey's upset and Maureen tries to cheer her and suggests a movie night. They go to the video store and try to pick out something they both like. Stacey suggests a horror movie and I can't really picture Stacey as the horror type. Also I was just thinking about video stores because the thing that I stole was a Tomb Raider game that I never returned. And then they all closed down. They finally decide on Gone with the Wind (!) and I wonder how early they ate because they had dinner before going to the video store. Does Ann not know how long that movie is?
Anyway, Claud calls a tells Stacey about what happened. She asks if she can come over and Stacey is like 'I could use my best friend' so you know some shit is gonna go down. They only mention what good friends they are right before a fight. Stacey apologises to her mom for ditching their movie night but Maureen is cool about it. Claudia comes over and Stacey notices she's distracted and milling around her room. Finally Stacey realises what's up and tells Claudia that she knows she's looking for the ring. They get in a fight and I'm on Stacey's side. That's pretty skank of Claud to think her best friend would steal.
Chapter 13!
Stacey spends the next day by the phone awaiting Claudia's apology but it never comes. At the BSC meeting, Stacey sits with the plebs on the floor rather than be anywhere near Claud. While mentioning Claud's snacks she mentions funny bones and I have never heard of those before. Thank God for Google. Stacey says it's dues day and Claudia says they shouldn't have to pay dues if they're not making any money. But of course Kristy tells her she has to pay, it's a rule. No mention of her slipping on a pair of brass knuckles and giving Claudia a dreaded Look.
They discuss the problem with the Gardellas and Stacey says she thinks she has a solution. She'll sit for them for free till the ring is paid off. Now I'm no good at math but if they make roughly $3 an hour and a diamond ring costs roughly $350 that's a Hell of a lot of baby-sitting. And secondly, what makes her think the Gardellas will want her to sit for them? They accused her of stealing a pretty expensive ring. Do they think if anything else goes missing, they'll have proof? That they can go to the police? Anyway, Mrs. G agrees but only if another club member comes along too. And again, this makes no sense. If she doesn't trust Stacey why would she trust her friend? But of course we all know logic has no place in Ann's world. Kristy will go along on a job.
Chapter 14!
So, Stacey and Kristy are sitting at the Gardellas and wondering what could have happened to the ring. They worry it might have been the thief and take precautions. Guys, think. If it had been the thief wouldn't he have taken more than one ring? They put Tara to bed and feed the animals. Bird lays down but Mouse is feeling playful so they toss him a toy. He shakes it around and Kristy says she's seen Boo-Boo do that with a real mouse. I'm impressed that Boo-Boo can still hunt at his age and weight. I'm pretty sure Jynxie couldn't do that. Even my hunter Simon slowed down a little as he aged. But he was still active when he was old so I guess Boo-Boo could be too.
Mouse keeps taking his toys and leaving the living room with them and coming back empty handed. Or pawed. Or mouthed. And to prove Stacey knows nothing about cats, she worries that the catnip pillow made him sick when he goes nuts and his eyes get all dilated. Once Cabby knocked the catnip container out of my hand and got catnip everywhere. He was SOOOO high. I don't have a picture of him but here's a reenactment.
Stacey gets curious what he's doing with his toys and follows him. She finds that he's been stashing his toys under a rug. She reaches in to get them out and lo and behold! The diamond ring! They leave it there and when the Gardellas come home show them what had happened. And even as a kid I was a little bothered by the fact that Stacey could've easily put the ring there and say she found it. But at the same time she'd have to have prior knowledge that Mouse hides his toys. So I guess I'll give it a pass. It's least it's a plausible mystery and solution. Unlike later books.
Chapter 15!
At a BSC meeting and business is booming again. It turns out the Gardellas didn't even tell anyone about the ring thing so it was all a big coincidence that business was slow. Claudia made up with Stacey and to show she's not a total ass, she apologised before she knew Stacey was innocent. Mrs. G calls and says she won't need them so much because their nanny came back. Yeah, they had a nanny, sorry I forgot to mention that. At least there's some explanation on why they don't show up again. But the BSC agrees not to sit for them anyway since they don't trust them. And again, they get a special request from a client and shed no blood over it. And I'm really tired of this argument, guys. So I'll just leave this here. For Kristy.
Oh, also the burglar was caught because he left his wallet at a victim's house and the dog found it. Yeah, that was stupid and pointless and we should boo it. Boo-urns! Boo-urns! Claud gives Stacey an ear cuff and Stacey says her parents are thinking about getting her that diamond ring after all. And I just...*sigh* Like Stacey isn't spoiled enough. Ed and Maureen have no sense and need their adult cards taken away. But luckily her 14th birthday never comes nor does she get it for any of the several Christmases that come up. So, I can't be too mad about it. And that's a wrap! Next up will be Kristy and the Missing Child unless any of you have a request. Just let me know, guys. Thanks for reading!
