Kristy and the Cat Burglar: Part 3

Jan 25, 2014 20:09

So this middle part wasn't really that snarkable, so bear with me. Also, a few of these chapters are long. But we shall press on.

Chapters 1-3
Chapters 4-7

So here we go:

Chapter 8
So at the next meeting, the girls are discussing Golem's reward. Kristy says that the mystery deserves center stage and that they're going to discuss it at their meetings from now on. Something more important than babysitting? Be still my heart.

Mallory did some research on the Cat Burglar. She refers to them as 'he', prompting Jessi to jump on her ass, since the thief could be a girl. I see your future, Jessi, and it's angry and stupid and #2c4762.

Anyway, it turns out that the Cat Burglar has been around for a few years. He doesn't strike often, but when he strikes, he strikes big. Things he's stolen include:
-Two Million Dollars worth of gold from a New York banker
-A Blue Tiffany Lamp from an Italian prince.
They discuss suspects and the first person Claudia brings up is, of course, Sgt. Johnson. Stacey brings up the security guard, and Kristy mentions Golem's associate, Ben Birch. Oh, and Cary. Because why not?

Reinhart Golem calls them, saying that he's looking for a detective. Reinhart Golem gives me major stranger danger vibes. I also can't believe that Kristy isn't having a hissy fit about tying up the line for jobs. But I suppose if a rich man was offering me big bucks to find his jewels, I'd toss babysitting to the wind as well. He asks her about Sgt. Johnson, and Kristy tells him that he's a good friend to them. Golem tells her that Johnson's finger prints are on the marker they found.

After she hangs up, Mal tells her that the banker the Cat Burglar stole from lived in the same building that Reinhart Golem lived in in NYC. Kristy wonders if this means that the thief has been planning to rob Golem for a while...
..
...
Oh my god, you guys...

The chapter ends with some observations in the Mystery notebook:
-Mallory does more research, and finds out that the name of the police officer that investigated the New York job was called Officer Johnson. She wonders if it could be their Sgt. Johnson, because Johnson isn't a common name at all.
-Claudia tries to find more info on Ben Birch, but can't find anything on him at all.
-Abby looks into the security guard. She calls the company he works for and asks if the guards are trustworthy. The lady won't give a thirteen year old this information, which make the whole thing OMG suspicious!

Chapter 9

Ugh, babysitting chapter. I'll try to keep it short:

-Claudia is babysitting for Charlotte.
-Claudia outfit: Purple painter's pants, red high tops with purple laces, a red sweatshirt with purple embroidery, and fake glasses with purple frames. I guess she's ready to go under cover at the Stoneybrook Red Hat society.

The best friends you'll ever have.

-Turns out Charlotte isn't the only kid in the Brook bitten by the spy bug.
-The Pike Triplets are spying on the Rodowsky boys. Kristy takes a dig at Jackie.
-Charlotte notes that Adam is wearing one of Mallory's old shirts. I don't know why this amuses me...
-Matt and Haley Braddock are spying on Aunt Cecelia talking to some guy. Haley says that it's a gardner, and not a boyfriend. Oh thank Christ..?
-Vanessa and Becca are following Charlotte and Claudia around and spying on them.
-The girls make up and spy on Claudia.

Chapter 10

Kristy and Mary Anne go to have a meeting with Golem. He invited Kristy and a friend to have brunch with him at Chez Maurice. I'm still getting major stranger danger vibes.

He tells the girls that the police think that Burglar is a copycat (gah! puns!) Mary Anne brings up the diamonds, but he brushes her off, telling her that the diamonds were heavily insured, so he won't suffer any financial loss.

Abby writes in the Mystery notebook that she caught Cary 'birdwatching' again. My peeping tom theory is looking brighter and brighter! Abby follows Cary, and sees Ben Birch lurking around the woods.

Stacey goes over to Cary's house, feigning interest in his birdwatching. He shows her his journals and sketches, and they are sadly of real birds, not the MILFs of Stoneybrook. She finds out that Mr. Retlin used to be a cop, and is now a locksmith.

Jessi does another search on her parents computer, but still can't find anything on Ben Birch. (The internet exists in Stoneybrook? The Hell?)

Claudia finds out that Sgt. Johnson once worked a case at the estate. The case was dropped due to lack of evidence.

Kristy goes to see Sgt. Johnson. While they talk, she notices a pack of permanent markers behind his desk. The red marker is missing. Kristy realizes that OMG Sgt. Johnson must be the thief! Slow your roll, Kristy, there's still 4 chapters left in this thing.

Chapter 11

So the girls are at another meeting, discussing the case, and Kristy's suspicions about Sgt. Johnson. Janine interrupts, telling them that their is a police officer downstairs. They go down, and it's Sgt. Johnson, looking like hell.

He rants to the girls about how he's being framed, and how he's been betrayed by everyone. I honestly really can't snark this. The poor man is losing everything, and the only people he has left is the BSC. That is depressing as hell.

The Chief of Police shows up and arrests Sgt. Johnson. Kristy feels bad and she should.

Will Sgt. Johnson's name be cleared? Will the BSC get the dollar signs out of their eyes and see the obvious villain? Will Charlotte ever stop spying? Will Cary serve a purpose in this story other than to be a red herring?

Tune in next time for the thrilling exciting... the conclusion.

cary retlin, piss poor police work, kristy vs. cary, kristy, mystery #36 kristy and the cat burglar, i hate kristy, facepalm, obvious villains
