Karen's Mermaid (1-6)

Aug 07, 2012 00:15

I'm bored, it's late, and I'm rereading this book over again. There isn't anything particularly snarky in it, but I'm in the mood for snark, so I'll see how much good the Snark Goggles do for this book. And really, Margo is an annoying little so-and-so so that alone should be enough for some good snark.

This particular Karen book holds a special ( Read more... )

little sister, actual excitement, sea city, pike family madness, karen, parenting fail, ls #52 karen's mermaid, annoying kids, unwarranted self-importance

Q- Why are karen and Andrew on vacation with Margo Pike?,,,, Is it ever mentioned ever that the two families know each other?

Apparently they do. Mallory has babysat for Karen and Karen mentions playing with Margo all summer.

I think this is the only book where they do. And of course there's all this crap about how their families go way back, but then never encounter each other again.

I'd have found a spot behind a dumpster or squatted in a corner (who'd notice?) than even go near a toilet in a place like that.

Trampoline World is not a store, but a tourist attraction where you pay to jump on giant trampolines with strangers. I'm ashamed that I knew that off the top of my head.

Why was Karen playing with Margo all summer if she hates her? There are like a dozen Pikes close to Karen in age. She couldn't have hung with Claire, Nicky or Vanessa instead? I know there's some age difference, but seriously, there's no law saying that kids can only play with those exactly their own ages.

I also don't get why Karen and Andrew are going, but Kristy isn't. Wait, did Becca go, or just Jessi? The logistics of Pike family vacations give me headaches.

Aww, don't be ashamed. I knew that too and was going to comment, but you beat me to it. :D

Becca didn't go. Jessi went with Mal's family, not her own. Kristy won't go with Lisa's family because she knows how Lisa tends to use the kids as battle pawns against Watson and then she'd have the biggest battle pawn of all.

...I swear I'm just going to start making charts and graphs for the vacation books. It's the only way I can get through them without getting horribly confused.

I don't remember Margo being such a know it all. I thought the girl couldn't speak because she was constantly vomiting.

I think Margo was "bossy" once in one of the earliest books.

Maybe it's because I haven't read this book (I'd rather take a bullet to the leg than read a LS book) but I can't help but side with Margo here. My hate for Karen is never ending and to have someone getting on her nerves and showing her what it's like to be bossed around is okay by me. But annoying kids are still annoying so maybe they should both get eaten by a shark.

Normally kids like Margo piss me off, but since it's Karen she's annoying? Personally, I'm all in favor of this.

I agree. It's nice to see Karen getting a taste of her own medicine for a change. It's a shame she doesn't learn any empathy for Andrew or her classmates.
