Tagline: Someone--or something--is out to get Jessi!
Mmm-hmm. Something. What, like the Locker-room Ness Monster?
I don't know about you, but I've watched a decent amount of crime-solving shows. I kept thinking of them during my initial re-read of this book. The one I've been watching most recently is NCIS.

I like being praised for my hard work and talents by my teachers, but I would much rather it be done in private, instead in front of the entire class.

No, but seriously, everything you say is valid, and that's why while she thinks she's praising one of her students, she's really screwing over everyone. Why put on a ballet when your students aren't up for it, or if only one person can truly handle the lead? Or why not let someone else have a chance? It's not Jessi and her back-up dancers; there are other people there who have the capability. If the same person keeps getting the main parts over and over again, everyone else will get discouraged. No wonder Hilary gets so jealous she starts threatening Jessi.
The only thing I would add, in the 11-year-old versus 16-year-old department, is that a 13-year-old boy played the handsome prince and he had to lift Aurora. It was probably a lot easier to lift Jessi than some of the other dancers, especially someone older and presumably a bit bigger.
