What I couldn't figure was why Lisa would've left in the first place! I get her wanting to keep her younger kid occupied during that time, but for heaven's sake, your daughter is SEVEN! Any number of things could go wrong or require her to speak up about, and a child - yes, a CHILD, which Karen is, no matter how grown she thinks she is - wouldn't necessarily.
Late comment is late, but: this book legitimately gave me a fear of haircuts. Well... according to my mom, I'd never really cooperated per se, but goddamn BSC gave me a reason to rationalize my fear. See, every time I was dragged to Cartoon Cuts, I just knew I was going to get a horrible mullet like Karen did and everyone would make fun of me and my life would probably end.
I am now nearly 20 years old and still wary of hair salons. I've kind of always wanted to have more interesting hair, but that nagging 7-year-old voice in the back of my head keeps going "NOOOO IT'LL GET MESSED UP"
