So yesterday, news came that The OC had been cancelled, which sucks. Especially now that Kevin Sorbo aka syndicated TV's Hercules has been added as a guest star playing Frank Atwood, Ryan's formerly jailed, formerly estranged father. We could all see it coming with the demise of Marissa, I suppose, but I thought that they would cancel at the end of the season instead of so soon. Instead, the last episode will be February 22nd. This is devastating to me for obvious reasons. I am from The OC, this was my show. From the beginning I followed the drama that was so close to home in the county of Orange. This is the same excuse I use when I defend myself against Laguna Beach naysayers. But anyway, what else is Fox going to put on TV that is better than the OC? They can't put on 15 hours of House or 24 each week.
If there is good news that has come out of this, it is that executive producer (and Creator) Josh Schwartz and executive producer Stephanie Savage have been green-lighted on the pilot for a new series "Gossip Girl" based on my favorite teen series of books revolving around a group of privileged teens from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Even though I am 21 years old, I love these books. They are short, easy to read, and mind-numbing--I like to not think a lot. I adore the catty main character Blair. She is the antithesis of banal. They were rumored to be making a movie (with a screenplay written by Amy Sherman-Palladino, creator of Gilmore Girls--she probably didn't want to get into another "girls" project) starring Lindsay Lohan as Blair, which would have been a bad idea. While Lohan is bitchy and crazy like Blair, she ain't as classy.
They better cast well, that's all I have to say. Even if they don't, I'll still watch it though, who am I kidding. I am not better than that.
Somewhere, Mischa Barton is taking a bath in Veuve Clicquot and laughing her ass off for leaving the show before it was cancelled.
