Gibraltar

My friend Ian came down for the weekend I haven't seen him in about a year.  It was a lot of fun to just hang out, discuss life's problems and joys with an old friend.  A common theme that kept coming up was how we each had or are feeling lost.  This is a common thing with people our age (25 to 30) and actually has begun to get enough notice to be dubbed the "Quarter-Life Crisis"  I know a lot about this subject because I have been dealing with these emotions for about 2 years now.

Life is going to throw shit at you day after day in unrelenting fashion.  Its very easy to get down on yourself when this occurs.  One of the key things I have learned is that when this happens you have to have a Gibraltar.  That piece of you that you can stand on.  No matter what happens you can say to yourself I am ______.  One of mine is I am a great Deltasig.  No matter what happens in my life I can retreat to my Gibraltar state that I am a great Deltasig and feel centered.  It sounds kind of lame but without having an identity that you can lean on you can lose yourself.

In a large ocean full of waves you would float away on the whim of the current and end up somewhere that you never wanted to be.  But with an identity that is unwavering that core thing within your soul.  You will never get lost for you can always go back to it.  Everybody will have a different Gibraltar, in fact you can easily have more then one.

Having more then one is a good thing, because the "identities' you can rely on the more stable you are as a person.  If you are a good mother or father, or your a successful entrepreneur, or a baseball player.  All those things create a large landmass that you can stand on and peer out into the ocean and pick what direction you want to sail.

This is inline with the "I am" statements I was talking about earlier.  Take some time today to discover some of the core aspects that make up yourself.  Those activities, events, or persona's that define who YOU are.  Write them down or commit them to memory.  Then when the days get dark and the rain clouds begin to roll in .  Lean on them and feel reassured that these bad times cannot take you down or stop you from being a great Deltasig (in my case)  Then as the storms batter against you and winds whip from above you will be secure on your Gibraltar.

Eventually the clouds will clear and you can begin making forward progress yet again.  So enjoy your life and never forget who you truly are.  Thanks for listening and enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Peace

life, identity, friends, deltasig
