So! belmanoir and zabira and Z's awesome friend jillbertini and I went to see some of those American Idol people the other night! I liked them okay!

It was additionally odd that they just performed the entire set without a bass player? There's no tech to borrow? they might have had a pre-record turned WAY DOWN to fill in, but the whole thing sounded a lot brighter than I've been hearing on youtube. I was hoping that the live show would grunge up that polished album sound just a little?
They had this thing timed down the the second, with all three of the acts start and end times. I've NEVER seen any show where, say, 9:45 - 11:00 meant exactly that - you could set your watch by it! I seem to need a lot more fast-and-loose (that's what she said) to really fall into a live show - costume changes knock me right out of concert headspace. It's like the opposite of a TV 4th wall issue, where I want to forget that this is a rehearsed and scripted PERFORMANCE and not just awesome people being themselves in awesome ways onstage for us.
(the Portland venue is strange in that there are HUGE WINDOWS with no shades, so Allison's set was lit up by this amazing sunset. My camera can't really capture it from that far away, but she GLOWED up there. )

Aww, now I feel all guilty for thinking inappropriate thoughts about Adam and Tommy while Tommy was all in distress! I kind of doubt that he found out right then, though--the mood seemed fairly jovial onstage, and Adam slapped Tommy on the ass as they were leaving, which seems not-quite-appropriate for sad news. Unless that's how Adam expresses sympathy, which I suppose is possible. Hee. Anyway, hopefully everything went okay with Tommy's dad?

*nodnodnod* I know what you mean. (Also, man, you should try to get out to see Cook and the guys the next time they're in your vicinity--that's exactly the effect of their show, to me anyway, and it's pretty awesome.) (Also since I'm totally planning to do the crazy stalker thing and do multiple shows the next time around, maybe we chould all go! Hee.)
