And the ghost repeaters singing hallelujah

Dec 03, 2009 11:14

I'm going to attempt a recap of the Crash Kings/Tally Hall/Rooney show last night in a bit (short version: avoided being crushed to death by tiny teenaged girls, Crash Kings amazing, also very hot, Mike totally wants me, Tally Hall adorable and very difficult to describe, Rooney very pretty, extreme closeup guitar!porn would have killed me had it been Neal, greensilver got to contemplate the occasionally fine line between concerts and strip clubs). But for now, a couple of quick things:

First, an email from Jeffrey Foucault. Seriously, he and Kris have the most endearing email styles for these updates, it is DELIGHTFUL. Exciting news and general swoonworthy charming wry eloquence below:

THANKS

With the last update of 2009 I want to thank everyone who came out to shows from Anchorage to Amsterdam this year. It's a good job and I like it fine, but it works best when you're there.

Looking ahead I have two albums finished and awaiting release: Cold Satellite, a fast and loose rock band album of songs based on the writing of Lisa Olstein, and Seven Curses, a duet album of murder ballads recorded with my friend Mark Erelli in the course of two nights. I'll be posting the album covers, track lists, and some mp3s soon, with release details to follow. I've also finished a new collection of songs and I'm planning to record my next solo album for a 2010 release.

Take care, have good holidays, and I'll hope to make it to your town soon.

Best,
JF

DECEMBER NEWS

-I'll be fronting another High Country Low-Fi show at the Rendezvous in Turners Falls MA this Friday night: three sets of classic country from Lefty to Louvin and Hank to Haggard, performed casually and in a heartfelt manner. Come down, order a beer, cry into that beer.

-I'll be sharing a bill with Kris Delmhorst at The Mill in Iowa City on the 11th, and one of my favorite musicians and songwriters, Dave Moore will be backing me up on harp and accordion. I love to make music with Dave Moore. If you've never heard his record 'Breaking Down to Three'(Red House), you ought to hunt it down straight off - it's one of the most fully realized albums I own, an album I go back and back to.

-And I'll close out the year's travels back at my home bar, the venerable Cafe Carpe in Fort Atkinson WI, with our annual three-night-stand of The Bird: Kris Delmhorst, Peter Mulvey, David Goodrich, and myself 15/16/17 December. We put the mics in the middle of the room, put the players around the mics, and put the audience around the players. Like Elvis's '68 Comeback Special, but with beer instead of psychotropic drugs. It's about as intimate a show as you could ask for. When I stomp my feet I have to be careful not to step on people. These shows will sell out, and tickets must be purchased in advance. Fortune favors the bold.

JEFF. I LOVE YOU. SOMEDAY I WILL WRITE YOU AND KRIS THE SWOONY FAN-LETTERS I KEEP COMPOSING TO YOU IN MY HEAD. Since some of you are probably new here since the last time I pimped Jeffrey Foucault (and his lovely and talented wife, Kris Delmhorst), let me just say: JEFFREY FOUCAULT. BEST LYRICIST GOING. We're talking Leonard Cohen levels here. And the acoustic guitar porn ain't bad, either. KRIS DELMHORST. Versatile, charming, shines with more joy in performance than anyone I've ever seen, and her songs fill my heart to bursting. Between them, they are monopolizing approximately 42% of the world's current stock of awesome. Buy their albums, love their albums, listen to their albums till you wear them out, and if you have the chance to see either or both of them live, DON'T MISS IT.

Speaking of musicians I love (for a change), here are two pictures that are making me AWWWWWWWWWWWW:

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. The Dave/Kyle manhandling is adorable enough, but then ANDY AND NEAL. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! (Click to embiggen, it just gets cuter!)

And then there's this:

OH MY GOD MY HEART. Oh David. Why do time and space and circumstance deny me the opportunity to hug you at moments like these? WHYYYYYYY?

You guys. I LOVE HIM.

P.S. He is also very pretty:

Okay. Concert report spam later, hopefully.

sharing is caring, kris delmhorst, jeffrey foucault, picspam, and the anthemic, david cook was created in a lab, music, crash kings
