[Bryn has been extremely quiet since the trial, and has more or less kept to her room. After everything had calmed, she had forced herself to leave the training yard and back to her room, and left there only to get food and come back. Normally at a time when she was upset, she might have changed forms and gone for a run in the forest or out to the

His scrawl is quick, but legible.]
Yeah .. I'd like to know all of these things, too.
You holding up okay, Bryn?

I'm as well as can be expected for having seen a friend thrown into a ring to fight to the death.
They couldn't have done something so horrible to warrant that reaction, could they?
[Frankly, Nick didn't seem the type to do something that would lead to a death-penalty. At least, he didn't to her.]
What about you, you're unharmed I hope? I...I meant to join you out there but someone pulled me back and wouldn't let me go.

Anna, the tiger, and he got into a fight in the halls .. I'm not sure what started it, but she was furious and Nick was just trying to get away. He isn't .. wasn't too good at being a panther .. still learning even though he'd been shifting for a while.
The crime did not at all fit the punishment .. I'll never be convinced it did.
[No, Nick is a pussycat comparatively. :(]
All but .. the axe guy skimmed me with his blade, but nothing serious. And I know you did .. I saw before things got even harrier ..
[He had recognized Anders, and seen how he'd reacted but a few minutes after he himself holding Bryn back from the battle. The Headsman had none of it from either of them..]
Fine enough .. Healing just fine.. Nothing to worry about in the scheme of things.
[But not as fast as he normally would. he's NEVER healed this slowly on his own. He's actually had to change his dressings several times and knows he'll possibly scar. That in and of itself is the worst outcome for him, but ( ... )

I'm glad that you're going to be okay...
[Bryn pauses once more, unsure of how to broach her next subject delicately.]
I also...didn't realize that you and the others were shapeshifters.
[She leaves it there, wondering how he'll reply.]

[You're more than just a hazy memory. He's got a face and a jumble of names. He's trying to match everyone with the right names.]

That is Nick. Nick's handwriting. What is going on here? Is it Nick's ghost? Oh god is that a ghost writing to her?]
Yes, that's me.
...
Who are you?
[Because that can't be Nick, right? That would be crazy. Totally nuts. Nick is dead. She saw him die. In the stupid trial by combat with the crazy gigantic tiger lady's jaws around his neck.]

What do you mean?

Yes... we should have been informed. For all the good it would have done.
And... I apologize.
Reply
Yes, we should have...
[She responds a little dumbly, as if she hadn't said as much already.]
But I don't...what are you apologizing for?
[Does she even know his name? Bryn can't recall. The whole experience was so traumatic it's hard to remember the details like that.]

[He hesitates.]
You... know what for, I think. You weren't injured, were you?
Reply
[She nods her agreement, even if he can't see her.]
No I...I wasn't hurt. Bumps and bruises fade quickly. There's nothing to be sorry for.

And no, perhaps we didn't, though it seems like something significant enough that it should be volunteered, at least in my opinion.
[Oh god, perhaps she's criticizing their hosts too much? After all, they were supposedly saved from certain doom by Lord Deior. They were guests. Did she have a right to be so upset about the rules of his household?
...then again, this was a matter of life and death. Surely that was beyond the rules of hospitality, wasn't it?
Bryn bit her lip, very unsure.]

[No weapons were a good thing as far as Bryn was concerned.]
