So... I'm planning this major valkyrie costume. I had the idea that I could also make a pair of wings to go with it so I could wear it to the faerie festival/s. I'm trying to decide what medium to make the wings out of.
Some details on the planned costume...
The top will feature scalemail and/or chainmail in a halter type form or bra with a drape that goes over the tummy. My tummy needs to be covered!! I'm thinking if I do chainmail to start I'll try to make something in bright aluminum to start... trimmed in a gold anodized aluminum. If I do scales, I'll use the silvery gold scales from the ring lord. I'll probably make something to go underneath the chainmail/scalemail. But that will be figured out after I figure out the armor.
The bottom will be a skirt. It will probably be red, since that registers as a good valkyrie color.
I already have a headdress. It's a brass headband with little steel wings on each side of my head. It comes from the chainmail woman at the MD Ren Faire.
I'll probably make a cloak to wear when I wear the costume at faire, because wings wouldn't be as good of an idea.
So now the wings... I've made wings out of cellophane, fabric, and pantyhose all on wire frames, so I'm not limited to a particular technique. I'd ideally prefer them to be more faerielike, so that leave out the gut instinct to do feathered wings. Plus feathered wings would be a huge pain.
I've considered doing something in a metallic fabric or metallic cellophane... possibly even with layers of "feather shapes"... any opinions? I've also thought of incorperating runes somehow...
