Dear Friends and Family,
Thank you for visiting my AIDS Marathon Donation Page. This may surprise you, but I am training for the 2006 Disney Half Marathon Marathon which will take place on September 17, 2006. That's right - it's an actual half marathon - 13.1 miles. And from June until September I'll be logging nearly 500 miles in this four month training program which is raising money for the fight to end AIDS. It's an exciting journey. And even though I'll be getting up at the crack of dawn, and I may have my share of bitching and moaning, I know it will be worth it.
Did you know that more than one million Americans, and 40 million others around the world, are living with HIV -- the virus that causes AIDS? With more than 20 million deaths so far, AIDS is now the leading cause of death among all people aged 15 to 59 worldwide.
Regrettably, Los Angeles has the second highest number of people living with AIDS in the United States. So the money I am raising will benefit AIDS Project Los Angeles. APLA provides food banks, transportation, home health care and other vital services -- to help keep people with HIV/AIDS alive until there’s a cure.
This is such a worthy cause, and I would like to ask for your support. I have made a personal commitment to raise at least $1,900 before Friday, August 4, 2006 -- and I hope to raise even more. Any contribution you can make would mean a great deal to me. Contributions are tax-deductible and will make a huge difference in the lives of thousands of people living with HIV/AIDS.
Not only will I be doing this on my 21st birthday-- yes instead of drinking-- I will be asking for no presents or alcohol, but instead for donations for this fundraiser.
Thanks for your generous support.
Charlene Galicia
