So tonight instead of tricking 'n' treating I instead headed to Rivertown to the poetry slam. I actually read tonight, something I made up while I was waiting for the experience to begin. I titled it "The Poet's Scratchings" and it was well received by the audience.
Copperhead Red blessed us with her presence tonight, a fiery redhead and a vegan! Excitement! She wasn't the marvel that was Seth Walker, but I don't think anyone will be able to compare with his brilliance, but her poems were poinant and thought-provoking nonetheless, especially one she did about Jesus. If I'd had the money I would have bought a book and CD.
Afterwards Copperhead and a few other guests reconvened at JT's and Pratik's house where we simply talked and enjoyed each others' company and enjoyed a late Indian meal. I love love love being around artists, we have the most moving conversations and interesting discussions and things to say. Several clever words were breathed into existence. I have to have a group of artistic friends when I move to Denver.
I'm listening to some ol' skool rap, ala The Pharcyde and Digable Planets. This is when music was pure, at its most potent and powerful. Now it has been stripped to the bones and even those are cracking under the pressure of modern day garbage. Ahh, if only music could have stayed on this path, but unfortunately the road was closed, demolished and built over.
Where has all of the magic gone?
Peace. Out
