Lyrics Friday - Songs from a Mini Bang Playlist

Dec 09, 2011 16:05

Here's the list of songs I've been listening to all week, I can't seem to get them out of my head even though I typed the last words in my last Mini Bang last night. Now, I'm not saying the songs fit the flow of my story, but they definitely got me motivated to write my story.

First song up is "Standing in Front of You" by Kelly Clarkson. I'm just gonna say it, I'm addicted to this song. It is a TOTAL Jane and Lisbon song, if I didn't know any better I would say that Kelly Clarkson is a major Jane and Lisbon shipper, and that she wrote this song for them.

"You start to sway again
Feeling good in your skin
You start to remember when you didn't have to try
And then the glitter turns to the dust
The color fades enough to make out pictures of a fire that burns like love
You can close your eyes don't worry
I'll still be here in the morning

Take a breath and listen
Open up stop wishing
All that you've been missing
Standing in front of you
Everything you're fearing
All the walls your building
Take a chance and reason
Standing in front of you"

My next song is another song by the incredible Kelly Clarkson. This song is called the "Sun Will Rise", again. . . I don't think this song fits the flow of my story particularly well, but it got the story flowing. Which is all that's important to me. Besides, it might be a future Jane and Lisbon song. I could totally see Lisbon saying something like this to Jane. . . just not from the lyrics.

"And though you can't see it
So hard to believe it
Sometimes you just need a little faith
There's an answer to your prayer
And I swear that there'll come a day
The sun will rise
The sun'll rise
The sun'll rise. . "

Then there's "When You Know" by Shawn Colvin. This song is from the "Serendipty" soundtrack, I listened to it and pictured Lisbon and Jane's reunion in this story. . . her looking at him from across a crowded cafe. So, this song did fit my story. . . it didn't just inspire me to write it.

"You can feel love surround you
Like the sky 'round the moon
This is how love has found you
Now you know what to do
When you know
That you know
Who you need you can't deny it
Or go back
Or give up
Or pretend that you don't buy it
When it's clear this time you've found the one
You never let him go
'Cause you know and you know that you know
And it's time you come in from the cold"

"Like Lovers Do" by Heather Nova is another song from the Serendipity soundtrack. This song was playing in my head while I angsted out my story, I was initially thinking about a Jane and Lisbon kiss to this song when I first started to write the story. I decided against the kiss, but kept the song. . . again, because it's what inspired me to plug on in the first place.

"There is a paradise that can be found
A better life to bring us 'round
And all we really need to do is see the world like lovers do
I want to take it easy
Take it slow
To catch a fire and let it go
I wanna give myself to you
So we can live like lovers do

Like lovers do
I want to feel that way
Yeah like lovers do
They lose themselves for days
Yeah I need to feel
I need to feel that way"

"After All This Time" by OneRepublic was added in my eighth draft of the story. I originally heard this song because of a Castle/Beckett fan video, I fell in love with the song and bought it off iTunes. I had my iPod on shuffle when I was brushing my teeth one night, and because of something Jane says in this story. . .  I added it right away. It's another one of the songs in this story that inspired me and fits the flow as well.

"All this time we were waiting for each other
All this time I was waiting for you
I've got all these words
Can't waste them on another
So I'm straight in a straight line
Running back to you
Oh, running back to you"

"All You Wanted" by Michelle Branch is just a song that I've always associated with Jane and Lisbon. I kind of think it fits Lisbon's POV best, so it doesn't fit the story AT ALL! But again, it inspired me to write the story.

"So hurry hold me
Your hand is all I have to keep me hanging on
And please can you tell me so I can finally see where you go when you're gone
If you want to, I can save you
I can take you away from here
So lonely inside
So busy out there
And all you wanted was somebody who cares
All you wanted was somebody who cares
If you need me, you know I'll be there"

"Run" has been a favorite song of mine since August. I own both the Snow Patrol and Leona Lewis versions of the song. For the story, I used Leona Lewis' version. . . I don't think it really came across in my story, but for me it echoes how Lisbon is feeling when Jane tells her that he's leaving the CBI and the country for a while. . . I'm putting my two favorite parts of the song here. The two parts that most remind me of Jane and Lisbon.

"I'll sing it one last time for you
Then we really have to go
You've been the only thing that's right in all I've done
And I can barely look at you
But every single time I do, I know we'll make it anywhere away from here

Light up, light up as if you have a choice
Even if you cannot hear my voice, I'll be right beside you dear

To think I might not see those eyes
Makes it so hard not to cry
And as we say our long goodbyes
I nearly do"

I am insanely in love with the Cure's version of "Just Like Heaven". I was first introduced to this song when I watched the film by the same name. When I was writing this story, I kept imagining the main characters from the film and their reunion. That's why I used this version in this story. . . it also stemmed from my desire to put an epic kiss or hug into the story. Like I said, I didn't put much touching in their reunion. But the song stuck.

"Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face
I kissed her hair
And dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow
Why are you so far way she said
Oh won't you ever know I'm in love with you
I'm in love with you

You
Soft and only you
Lost and lonely you
Strange as angels dancing in the deepest ocean
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream"

My sisters and I are OBSESSED with this song! The reason I used it is. . . well, if I told you, I'd give everything away. But let's just say, this story fit in my story perfectly. It's "La vie en Rose" by Mr. Louie Armstrong.

"Hold me close and hold me fast
The magic spell you cast, this is la vie en rose
When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And thou I close my eyes, I see la vie en rose

When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart, a world where roses bloom
And when you speak, angels sing from above
Everyday words seems to turn into love songs
Give your heart and soul to me
And life will always be la vie en rose"

I was expecting this song to be the "Somewhere Out There" I grew up with as a child. You know, from that film with the mouse named Fivel? Well, I was pleased when I put this song into you Youtube and found out that it wasn't the kid's song. Somebody reccomended "Somewhere Out There" by Our Lady Peace after I asked a Yahoo question for song recs that revolved around reunions.

"You're falling back to me
The star that I can see
I know you're out there, somewhere out there
You're falling out of reach
Defying gravity"

"This is For Keeps" by Spill Canvas is most likely about vampires. But I ignored that and decided to use the song anyways. It fit the story because of the underlying message. . . that in my story, Jane is ready to play for keeps.

"Follow me into the sea
Drown together and immortalize you and me
Leave behind this lonely town
We're both better and this is not worth being down
Eternity will never be enough for me"

I know there aren't a lot of Glee fans, but the "We are Young" cover sparked the last part of this story. I don't know why it made me think of Jane and Lisbon except for the lines:

"Now I know that I'm not all that you got
I guess that I just thought maybe we could find new ways to fall apart
But our friends are back
So let's raise a cup
'Cause I found someone to carry me home
Tonight we are young
So let's set the world on fire
We can burn brighter than the sun"

The last song that inspired this story is actually the first song that inspired it. It's called "Just Go" by Jack Johnson.

"Just go on
Just go on
There's still so many things I want to say to you
But go on, just go on"

I almost forgot about one other song. "When You Love Someone" by Bryan Adams. Again, this song was added to the playlist because of visions I was having of the direction I wanted the story to go in. The story didn't go down the route I planned, but I kept the song anyways. And there is some truth to it. . .because of something that Lisbon does in this story.

"When you love someone
You'll do anything
You'll do all the crazy things that you can't explain
You'll shoot the moon, put out the sun when you love someone
You'll deny the truth
Believe a lie
There'll be times that you believe you can really fly
But your lonely nights when you love someone"
