That means "I love you" in Maliseet, which is a dialect of Algonquian... which the tribe I am from speaks!
So I finally found out the name of the tribe of Native American that is in my anscestry, its the Passamaquoddy Tribe, and they live in Maine. They are broken up into two reservations and they have roughly 800 members today. I also learned that "tan kahk" is their tradtional friendly greeting and "woliwan" means thank you. Passamaquoddy literally means "those who pursue the pollack" which is the main type of fish that the tribe would eat to survive and they belonged to the Wabanaki Conference including 3 other tribes in the new england area and Wabanaki literally means "People of the Dawn" or "The People Who Dwell at the Sunrise"...they were actually the first tribe to have interactions with european immigrants since they resided in where Maine and Massachusettes and all those new england states are now located... so thats pretty interesting. It's really nice to finally have this information, I want to find out what my relative's name was and see if I can find any information on them by either contacting the Tribe or just researching myself. Ever since I took this Minorities class I have really wanted to know my past and what I come from, because I think that it really helps you to know just how lucky you are to be where you are and allows you to have a sense of pride in different cultures and tradtitions. No one is "white"... this is such a melting pot that in some fashion or another everyone has some mix of ethnicities and heritages and I think the differences are something that should be embraced.
in other news, I am the biggest procrastinator in the history of the wide world... and the biggest bum too... I had to dog sit this weekend, and the poor old puppy got sick on friday night so I didn't go to the movies with Sammy, luckily she didn't get sick again, but then saturday I slept til like 3:30pm on and off... and was just an uber bum alll day, I should have studied but instead I watched a top model marathon (naturally)...and then I didn't go out again because I was too busy being a bum lol...
but I did talk to alex for like 8 hours last night, it was out of control.. I was on the phone til like almost 6 in the morning, which is ridiculous! but we had a good chat, he basically in so many words told me that he is falling in love with me, but it was quite clear he was too scared to actually say the words, and thats better anyway, because I really don't want the first time we say "I love you" to be on the telephone. He kept telling me that he didn't want to scare me off haha... he is literally the biggest dork I have ever dated, but I love it haha. everything about him is just, amazing. He's just such a genuine person, I love it.
and I basically think I am going to get to kidnap him for the first week I am back in Januaury since his school doesn't start until the next monday, so that is basically going to be amazing, it's going to depend if he can get off from work all week, so fingers crossed!
