well its early september and we have already had several nights where it dipped down into the 40's here, even got close to frosting one night, so ive been working like crazy to get this place whipped into shape.
Been out weedeating and mowing like crazy, so the place looks better than it has in years, and as I go along, im finishing up small projects that have reamined unfinished for too many years.
So now im sore and a nice shade of red from a sunburn on my arms, so im restricted to the shop during the hot part of the days.
But it lets me get more work done inside, as I am alot more fired up to get things done around here.
I have seen a place on the side of the road near here that sells firewood for $200 a dump truck load.
Its expensive, but I have never cut down a tree and cut it up, so im not sure exactly how to go about that.
I would use my riding mower to go into the woods and use a cart I beefed up and put solid tires on it to hold up to the load of wood, and I do have 2 chainsaws, so ill probably give it a try here soon. If nothing else I can find a few fallen trees and pick on those for practice.
I finally picked up some bags of mortar mix to do the spot where the cook stove and heat stove will go, and now I just have to figure out how to lay brick :P
I do have the isinglass to fix one of the stoves, just waiting for some oven cement from lehmans so I can finish fixing the cookstove.
Ive still got a load of stuff to build in the chicken area aswell.
and with the price of eggs doubling over the past month, its close to time to start selling them. I just have to get rid of ALOT of roosters here soon so the flock will settle down again.
In a way im looking forward to fall, but I am definatly not looking forward to this looong winter.
Im still waiting for a differrent delivery from Lehmans, I had been doing some work on a couple of old oil lamps, including one I got off of ebay for about 5 bucks plus shipping. My only problem was that they had all of this old stickey redish/brown goo in the bottom and the old wicks were stuck in there and it wouldnt even turn.
But I was putzing around and discovered that if you poured denatured alcahol on it, that it will disolve the stuff like magic, and if you use a toothbrush on the mantle, it alos will start to operate again, and you can remove the old wick, and just pour some in the lamp base and swirl it around, and poof, the old oil just washes right out :)
but anyway, I found an olld oil lamp I had bought my mate years back as an anniversary gift, but was put in storeage as it stunk so bad of oil, and didnt work, so I cleaned it up and now its sitting in the big shop just waiting for a new shade so I can fire it up.
I looked it up on ebay, and the glass globe alone was worth $800, so we did good at that auction :P
I will have to get a few new pics of it so I can post on my photobucket thing.
But other than that, just working round here
Will post more here in a few days.
