It has been a month since hubby and I abandoned the children and headed off on our 10-year- anniversary trip to Chincoteague. It has made me sad to think about it because it was just such a wonderful trip. That's why I'm just now writing about it. I really want to go back. I've recently recognized that I have difficulty with transitions (just like the 3-year-olds in my class). I don't like it when things end. Anyway, I'm feeling that enough time has passed that I can share the trip with you without getting too moody. Here goes.

Our trip began on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. They had pancakes in the little restaurant on the bridge and at the gift shop they had a machine that smushed a dime! It really doesn't take much to excite me.

On the bridge I looked over and saw what I thought were scads of jellyfish in the water. Yuck. But then I realized they were rays! Beautiful sting rays gliding through the water. There were hundreds of them, possibly over a thousand all swimming along with us as we crossed the bridge. There was an emergency pull off and I wanted to stop for a picture but hubby didn't think this was an emergency. The boy's priorities are seriously screwed up if you ask me.

I just have to state here for the record that Hwy 13 is one boring, long-ass road. OMG I thought it would never end. And smelly? It's just fertilizer and poultry for miles and miles.

We finally arrived in Chincoteague and to find our hotel was just perfect! If you go, I recommend you stay at the Island Motor Inn. Just a lovely place where the owners have gone to great lengths to make it homey and unique. The room itself was nothing to write home about, but here is the view from our private balcony.

Nice huh? The ICW passes right by so you can watch boats travel by all day if you want, or walk on the boardwalk, or nap in the hammock, or swim in either pool, or stroll in the garden, or work out, or sip wine in the jacuzzi that overlooks the water, or brunch in the little cafe. We spent the mornings and afternoons on the balcony - mimosas and pastries for brekkies - wine and nibbles at sunset. Really we could have spend the entire time at the hotel. We were sorely tempted. Here is another view from the hotel.

We'd heard the best way to get around the island is by bike so we brought Baby and Bloo along for the trip. After settling in, we hopped on our bikes and headed to the charming downtown for dinner. We stopped at the first seafood place we saw, Don's, which has apparently been around forever. Yummy dinner was nearly followed by cherry pie ala mode, but alas, they were out. Thus began the week's quest. I settled for a Coke float at Muller's "haunted" Ice Cream shop. It's in an old house and though I found one reference to it's haunted state I could never learn anything specific about the alleged ghost.

Wow, this is just day one of four! I'll have to post more later. Stay tuned for day two!

hubby, play
