What did you do Memorial Day weekend, Melanie?
Not, much. I just hung out in a three-million-dollar mansion on the water. You?
See, I did a nice thing. I suggested we visit my mother-in-law on Sunday as I am, on occasion, a dutiful daughter-in-law. Wasn't that nice of me? She said "Sure, but I have a class at the Y in the afternoon. Your sister is housesitting for some guy and it's a pretty nice house. Why don't I meet you there?"
OMG This was the most fabulous house! Six bedrooms, each with a private bath. And there were two other little half-baths. Oh, and one in the pool house. Huge game room with...I can't even call it a wet bar. It was pretty much an extra kitchen. Pool table, natch. Shuffleboard table. Video poker games. I lost count at 7 flat screen tv's. Heated pool with a jacuzzi that sort of waterfalled into it. There was another jacuzzi too. This was all on the water, facing west. Can you say sunset? Sand volleyball court. Dock with kayaks. No workout room, which I found odd. I spent 20 hours in this place and felt as relaxed as if I'd had a week off.
And this guy is a bachelor! It's kinda sad because he has this huge house and it's evident he only inhabits a portion of it. All the rooms were full of furniture, but the furniture and book shelves were mostly empty. Some still had the tags. He had an extra little fridge in the kitchen, just for beer and sodas. And another one for wine. And the fridge drawers you and I put veggies in? They were full of cigars. CUBAN cigars. So he has this great big shell of a life with nothing inside.
My heart bled for him for at least five minutes. Then my sister-in-law said "If ya'll wanna spend then night just pick out some bedrooms." So we high-tailed it to the Walmart for toothbrushes then came back and jumped in the cement pond!
