A luthier is someone who makes string guitars violins ukuleles banjos. It is a lot harder than it might appear. You have to get the right bits of wood for the right bits. The neck needs x and the body needs y You have to plane them to a ridiculous thinness. The thinness has to be the same thinness across an expanse of wood which means your plane has to be manipulated in ways far beyond my ability or comprehension. Bits have to be stuck together with no gaps. It is bloody difficult to get no gaps because when you think you are gap free, looking at it through a device which shines a light on the join, you see things you didn't see before ie a bloody great gap which is invisible to the naked eye. Rejigging the plane or planing only portions of the edge takes a level of practical skill I do not possess. However luckily luthiers do which is why they are luthiers and I write in a blog about being rubbish at it.
