Beck's MODERN GUILT is out!

And it's amazing. I'm somewhat mystified by the sparseness of it, the mostly blank packaging, and the somber attitude of the piece. But the album seems to be one of his most poignant messages in his career, where he directly (or as direct as Beck gets) assesses the current situation of the world; the environment, the consumer culture, the world. It also turns introspective at times.

I don't care what Pitchfork says; just because this album is somber and sparse, and filled with foreboding--and just because it isn't fucking Odelay, doesn't mean that it isn't valuable.

As much as I adored Odelay's spontaneity and absurdism, I feel that this is a statement in it's own right, a statement that past-seekers won't get.

I will probably write a big rambling review of it, but not at the moment. I need to listen more.

PS The Giver is a great book.
