Cross posting from
erica_callie the fic I wrote for the recent gift exchange. Wanted to share it with anyone who isn't part of that group. I am so rusty! I haven't been writing at all lately. Not to mention I've been away at my parent's for the last nine days and wrote this there. So my mojo was way off! ;) I hope you all enjoy it anyway. Forgive any horrendous mistakes. Any feedback is always appreciated.

Her head twitched away and the feeling stopped. It started again, bringing her mind closer to consciousness. Her head moved away again and she became aware of the softness of the pillow against her cheek. Silence filled her mind as she drifted away, the darkness against her eyes becoming even more opaque. Just as she lost all awareness the feeling sparked her nerves again. She pulled away again, her ear the only part of her body with any feeling. A moan deep from her chest that she felt more than heard crawled out in protest. Again she became aware of the tickle moving around the edge of her ear and down into the crook behind her jaw bone. The darkness against her eyes became less heavy, light beginning to penetrate. Her skin woke to the sensation of cotton sheets as she rolled onto her back. Her mind pulling slowly, grudgingly from unconsciousness, she became away of the ticking clock pulsing against her eardrum. It was accompanied by the hum of light bulbs and spattering rain on a window. Finally, her eyes fluttered open only to close violently as if forced together by a magnetic pull. She forced them open, her body fighting against the vicious attack of light. Another moan escaped as she tried to focus her fuzzy vision.
"Merry Christmas." The quiet voice wrapped her ears in warmth. She stretched, a satisfied sigh her only response. A hand gently brushed hair off of her forehead, though she'd been unaware of its presence. "Good morning, Erica," the voice said, still warm and tender, bringing the image of a mother cooing at a sleepy infant to her mind.
"G'morning," she croaked back. Her voice seemed further behind the rest of her barely conscious body. The weight of the bed beside her shifted and she felt the slightly moist coolness of Callie's lips on her forehead. Another sigh of contentment released as she closed her eyes and settled back in against her lover's warmth. Just as she started drifting off into blissful sleep her eyes flew open in alarm as her body was violently shaken.
"Oh no, no, no. No more sleeping for you," Callie huffed as she continued her attack on Erica.
"Just twenty minutes," Erica protested. "Lay down with me." She patted the pillow beside her, her long fingers indenting the red pillowcase.
"No. It's ten-thirty."
"So? I'm tired," Erica said, very sincerely. She'd had an emergency surgery last night. Though she'd fallen asleep the instant she had gotten into bed, she hadn't even gotten home until ten after four this morning. She wasn't thirty anymore. She couldn't pull all nighters without paying for it.
"C'mon baby." Callie let a pout slip out as she spoke. "I can't wait any longer. I want to start our first Christmas. I want to start a tradition." By now she was all but whining. Erica couldn't help herself. Callie just made it too easy.
"Why can't our tradition be sleeping?" She rolled over and pretended to sleep, the comforter up to her chin. She couldn't keep the smile off her face. She knew she was driving Callie crazy. Erica thought to herself that Callie must have something really special planned to be so impatient.
"Because it's our first Christmas together. Last year you spent the holidays in Connecticut and I know it was for work. I mean, I know you saved that little boy and it's exactly where you should have been. It's just that it was our first Christmas and you weren't here." She paused and Erica felt her hand rest on her shoulder over the blanket. "I just really want this Christmas to be special and to make up for us being apart last year." A sigh fell from her lips. "I just can't wait any longer." Erica rolled back over to face Callie. She continued to smile though now it had softened from mischief to tenderness.
"Let's go start our Christmas. Just don't call me an old lady when I fall asleep by eight tonight."
"No promises," Callie teased. "But maybe we can take a nap together this afternoon." She smiled down at Erica.
"That sounds amazing." Erica reached out and took hold of Callie's arm when she moved to get off the bed. "Callie." She waited for Callie to sit back down.
"Yeah?" Callie's entire body was poised with impatience. Erica moved her hand from Callie's arm up to her neck. With just a little pressure she pulled a very willing Callie down into a gentle embrace. Their mouths met, Callie's full lips slightly parted, spreading her warmth over Erica's skin. She felt her body pulse as Erica slowly kissed her upper lip, with just the softest pressure and the tiniest flick of her tongue. Callie could feel Erica keeping the passion between them under control. She could feel the purposeful restraint and it just fueled the fire inside of her. Heat waved through her body and she tried to deepen the kiss. But Erica pulled back. Looking into Callie's dilated brown eyes she smiled and said in her huskiest voice, "Merry Christmas," before flashing a wicked smile and shimmying out of the bed.
The two women walked downstairs together. The aroma of hot coffee filled the air and Erica inhaled appreciatively. Apparently Callie had been up for a while. Not only was there coffee made, there was a whole platter of breakfast food - fruits, danishes, even sausages and bacon.
"Callie! This looks amazing!" Erica popped a chunk of pineapple into her mouth. "Mmm! Good pineapple!"
"I was going to make eggs but you weren't getting up and I didn't want them to get cold. Do you want some now?"
"No, we can have some later. This is perfect." She smiled and kissed Callie's cheek. Then she walked into the kitchen, a danish in her hand, and poured two cups of coffee. Holding the danish between her teeth, she picked up both mugs and carried them back over to Callie.
"You want to do presents now?" Callie sipped the hot coffee, enjoying the warmth coating her throat.
"Sure!" Erica ate her last bite of danish as they made their way to the living room. The Christmas tree sparkled with white lights, filling the center of the room. Ornaments of every color dangled from the branches and a silver star rested on the top. Presents from family and friends littered the floor beneath. It was a sight to behold and Erica took a minute to really take it in, to memorize the moment.
They sat on either end of the couch, opening one gift at a time. Together they laughed at every bad gift like the homemade mustard yellow afghan from Erica's aunt. And they oohed and aahed over picture frames, clothing, and numerous other gifts from various loved ones. They had agreed to go small this year and Erica had found a beautiful teal scarf for Callie that popped against her silky black hair and mocha skin.
"It's gorgeous!" Callie rubbed it against her cheek. "And so soft! I love it!" Erica smiled, her eyes sparkling, and Callie kissed her warmly.
"You're sure you like it? I can exchange it if you want a different color."
"No! I can't wait to wear it! Thank you baby!" Callie kissed her again quickly. When she pulled back her face was full of anticpation. "Your turn! Are you ready?"
"Absolutely!" Callie's excitement was infectious. Erica could feel it bubbling in the pit of her stomach. She watched as Callie plucked a small rectangular package from beneath the tree. When she handed it to her, Erica was surprised at the weightlessness of it. She pulled at the gold paper, unwrapping the gift precisely. Her eyes peered up to Callie's face. She had her eyes glued to the present while she chewed on her bottom lip. Erica chuckled at the sight of her tortured girlfriend as she pulled off the last of the paper. A black velvet rectangular box emerged. Her anticipation fluttered harder. Erica slowly opened the hinged box to find a beautiful tear drop necklace sparkling up at her. It took her breath away. She stared at it for what felt like hours, completely mesmerized. Finally she exhaled, the word "Callie" escaping with it.
"Do you like it?" The worry in Callie's voice snapped her back.
"Oh God! Yes! Callie it's beautiful! But I thought we were going small this year." She began to remove the necklace from the box as she spoke.
"I know. But I wanted our first Christmas together to be really special. And when I was shopping I came across this and it was perfect. The blue teardrop matched your eyes exactly. I was like I was looking into your eyes. I couldn't leave it there." Callie took the necklace and motioned for Erica to turn around.
"It *is* perfect. You shouldn't have. But it's perfect." Erica dropped her hair and turned back around as she felt Callie finish with the clasp. Her fingers ran gently over the pendant.
"I'm glad you like it." Her brown eyes dropped down for a second. When they looked up again there was a hint of insecurity in them. "This sounds so cheesy but when I saw it I kept thinking about how the diamonds around the blue topaz were like me. Always around you, giving you support without overshadowing you or suppressing you. I always want to be that person for you. I always want to be there for you, in whatever way you need me." She looked down again, pink rising in the apples of her cheeks.
"Cal?" Erica said gently. She watched as Callie slowly brought her eyes up to meet Erica's. "That is the cheesiest thing I've ever heard." She took hold of Callie's hand. "And also the sweetest. You are all of those things and more. You, Calliope Iphigenia Torres, are the best support system I've ever had and more than I'll ever need. I love this necklace and everything it means. Even more than that, I love you." Erica slid over on the couch, wrapped her hand in Callie's hair and kissed her with all the love and passion that Callie constantly awakened in her. She could feel the weight of the necklace on her chest, just over her heart, as she and Callie began their Christmas tradition of keeping each other warm by the Christmas tree.
