It's been rainy most of this week, and there's a chill in the air even when the sun's out. As I was having hair painfully ripped out of my legs and underams this morning, my beautician commented, "Summer seems to be over." I said, "It may come back. Sometimes there's summer in September." "But it will stay cold at night," she said, "I am certain." "Ah, hot water bottle season approaches!" I rejoined.
Autumn seems to be coming. This makes me more homesick than usual. Hockey season is about to start, and in Vancouver this means grey sky kissing evergreens through mists of rain, the squawk of soggy seagulls, the floor of Granville Island Public Market slick with water tracked in by crowds of shoppers, leaf mulch, Thanksgiving on the far horizon.
And... nostalgia over -- time to work. No point in coming into chambers if I'm going to sit her wasting time, and I've done pretty well so far.
