Garden

Our garden is so pretty!

It was a jungle when I moved in. Completely overgrown with weeds, and you simply didn't want to go out in it. We pretended it wasn't there and so it got worse, of course. The most I did when the warm weather arrived was just to open the door a crack so that the air could come in, and then ignore what was outside it! Justin and I put in about half an hour pulling weeds a couple of months back and kept saying we should continue but we never did. *shame*!

Well, when Georgie was last staying she mentioned that we should all take a Saturday and clear the garden. We agreed... but never did it.

So, Georgie staying again now, I came home last Wednesday to find thirteen GARBAGE bags of uprooted weeds by the kitchen door and one exhausted Georgie and a mound of weeds yet to be plucked in the middle of the yard. Wednesday is the day our cleaner comes, so Georgie had gone outside to "get out of her way" when she arrived at eleven o'clock and kept right on pulling until I showed up at six! I felt very guilty and lazy and pulled two more bags of weeds in contrition. At that point we ran out of garbage bags so when Justin showed up he was dispatched to buy some more and then plucked the last of the weeds into two more bags.

Then, this weekend we went to HomeBase and bought plants. And plants and plants and plants. Mostly flowers. Justin insisted on two sunflowers, but everything else is mostly purple and pink. And I bought some herbs -- sage, rosemary, chives, oregano, and another that I forget. *more embarrassment* And then I bought some mint from Waitrose, which is on the windowsill in the kitchen. So I need to look up recipes that call for fresh herbs! We got home and planted the back garden, with Justin mainly in an advisory role (!). And on Sunday Georgie and I cleaned up the patch of earth in the front of our house -- I weeded, she clipped the overgrown tree, and we planted the (peach and yellow, but only one of the peach ones is flowering as yet) miniature roses together. Then we both took a turn at raking and sweeping and gathered all the debris into bags.

And now it all looks lovely except there are lots of garbage bags full of stuff that hasn't been collected yet!
