Blown Away

Storm Katie got up to 106mph, gusts, off the Needles - that's where they generally measure the fastest windspeeds locally.  Other places might have been devastated, we seem to have gotten off unscathed.  w00t!

Well, it was unscathed until this morning.  H said goodbye at the usual (ungodly) hour and off he went.  I turned over and went back to sleep, only to find H wandering around the place again.  Dur?  Apparently he got to the station, the train he might have caught was going via Havant (that's east, he wanted to go west) because there was a blockage on the line going west.  So he went and asked the station staff, who were amazed, having heard nothing about said blockage.  They phoned up and yes, there was a blockage*.  H went back nearer 9am.  As he hasn't returned I guess they've shifted the blockage and he's gotten into work.  Hmmm, that means he'll have a few hours more to make up this week.  Perhaps it's a good thing the clocks went forward this weekend and the evenings are lighter.

I made both hot cross buns and a Simnel cake this Easter.  Actually the buns were un-crossed - I don't have a piping bag to apply the crosses, but they tasted good so that was ok.  The cake worked well too, although the central layer of marzipan cooked into an oozy goo which still oozes even now the cake is cold!

So today I'm kinda, I don't know how I am.  Probably need to get on and chase the dust.  Then, having done something, and writing a blog entry doesn't qualify as 'something', I'll feel better.  The floors will look better too.  At least until H comes home!

So that's it.  I'm off to chase the dust, then do some more knitting.  I'd better at least think about getting some pots too.  The seeds I sowed the other weekend are coming up apace and some will be in need of potting on soon.

Y'all have a good day now!

'Blockage' turned out to be a bicycle, which, I assume, hadn't been blown onto the line.  They'd have had to send out the 'Blockage Location and Assessment Team', then the 'Blockage Removal Team' (names made up) and they'd certainly have had to turn off the current to the third (electrified) rail in the particular section for a while.  Shouldn't have taken too long to move a bicycle though.
