Did you miss me, Dear Reader? Come on, admit it, did you even notice I'd not been around all that much? Have you had a good Easter? Here the bank holidays have co-incided with the end of March 'clock change'. In the UK the clocks now go forward an hour on the last weekend in March. This year that is the Easter weekend. Consequently we have a bank holiday Monday to recover a bit, before normal working hours take over and our body clocks are still re-adjusting. Never mind, it's now light til more-or-less 7:30pm and getting lighter most evenings. Mind you, last night it was dark by 7:30pm as it was raining. Hard.
Storm Katie crashed through the southern counties last night, pouring rain and, on
the coast, blowing 70mph winds.
I shut the bedroom window last night as the wind was making a tremendous racket through the cracks - we usually have the bedroom window slightly ajar. Last night it was shut completely and it still whistled occasionally! Things have calmed down now and the sun is shining, but it's still pretty windy outside.
You know the thing about cats and cardboard boxes, Dear Reader? You know, you leave a cardboard box around and, if you have one, 'your' cat goes and sits in it. Even if the box is techinically too small for 'your' cat. Apparently this works with the big cats too. Lions etc like cardboard boxes to sit in. You know when naturalists go to film rare animals and take half-way to forever to do so? If they're filming some kind of cat then they should take a cardboard box or two with them. It'd make finding the cats so much easier!
Anyhew, did you hear about the woman in Cornwall who was boxing up some DVDs to send to somewhere in West Sussex? She thought she'd sealed the (cardboard) box pretty smartly before she took it to the post office. I'm not sure what kind of postal service she asked for but the parcel took two weeks to get to its destination. Two Weeks!!!
Fortunately cats are tough old creatures and Cupcake (what self-respecting cat would answer to a name like that?), who had somehow managed to slip undetected into the box before it was sealed up and posted (presumably she also kept quiet during the trip to the post office)
turned up in West Sussex, with the DVDs two weeks later. She was rushed to a local vet, who said she's fine but very dehydrated and a bit weak (two weeks!!!) Then her 'owner' was contacted, who promptly drove up from Cornwall (in a lot less than two weeks) to collect her.
So that's the weather and cute cats covered. Over the past six or seven weeks various horrible things have occurred: bombs in Turkey, bombings in Syria, bombs in Belgium,
anti-Christian bombs in Lahore, fighting, wars and 'hate speech' from various people, some of whom should know better (looking at you, Trump).
I'm not going to add to the 'hate speech', or advocate the building of barriers. Nor am I going to allow myself to be scared into letting various agencies do such things 'for my protection'. Suddenly it seems that the world is most at danger from terrorists, possibly 'Islamic' terrorists at that, and then governments trying to prevent terrorist attacks!
Well, the terrorists, of any kind: - 'Islamic', Left wing, Right wing, whatever, are NOT going to win. Because hatred and violence are not going to win.
That's part of the message of Easter - the One who went voluntarily to the cross and gave up His life for us, was given His life again three days later. For ever. Hatred won't win. Love will.
He is risen indeed!
