'Late evening programmes on ITV3 are sponsored by Mega Red omega three krill oil' - the manufacturers of a diet supplement. Unlike cod liver oil supplements the krill oil is advertised as being non-fishy. Tesco is even offering it as a three for two bargain. Which is fair enough, I suppose, except . . .
Krill form the basis, more or less, of the whole ecosystem in the Southern Ocean. Krill feed on plankton. More or less everything else, directly or indirectly, feeds on the krill. So Mega Red, and other Krill oil product producers, in factory ships, are removing great swathes of the bottom of the food pyramid which ultimately results in penguins and Blue Whales.
I don't know about you, Dear Reader, but I'm going to put up with the cod liver oil. How about you?
