Right to . . .

The English Defence League want to hold another march in Portsmouth, again to  the site of the Muslim academy.  A spokesman has said that members have the right to protest and the council cannot tell them what they can or cannot do.

"We have the freedom to do what we want and we will be holding another march this weekend.  The march will be against the Madani Academy and the council."

Errr . . .  No.  You may have the right of protest, but if you are going to hold a march in the city you have to inform the authorities, including the police and the council, as they have the responsibility for keeping you safe!

Honestly, people are mad keen on their Rights these days.  It's about time they realised that they not only have these Rights but accompanying Responsibilities.  Like responsibilities to not go holding up the traffic, not chucking fireworks around, or even not stirring up intergroup hatreds!

Hmmm, what about our Rights to live in peace and quiet (traffic permitting), without having crowds of thugs milling around?

The police say there won't be an EDL protest - cos EDL haven't informed them.  Any attempt at a march will be broken up and moved on, arrested if necessary.  Which is all part of the Democratic process in this country.  You can march in protest provided you get permission, and permission isn't often denied.  You can't just go out and march willy nilly.

Should you try that the police will deal with you.  Fairly and fairly gently.  Compare that with what's happening in Egypt this week.

Y'all have a good day now!
