Expressions of General w00tness!
No, I don't know who he is either. Think, maybe, he's wandered in from someone else's ficlet. No, NOT Eligyah's, that was based on an incident in Harry Potter! Go see the blog. Where? Somewhere on my 'Friends' page. Look for an icon with Kenneth Branagh dressed up and grinning as Gilderoy Lockhart.
Regardless - the Viennese Gala New Year Concert with
the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra & Gunter Bauer Schenk was
BRILLIANT! Pity so many hadn't bothered to attend. Just
hope it doesn't put them off holding it here another year. So
much better than having to slog across to Southampton & back.
H arrived home in his usual state of bad-tempered
knackerment & did not look the best please when I told him I'd
managed to get tickets. I got on with getting the tea then
sent him to lie down for 3/4 hour (while I tried catching up with Flist
blogs & got distracted slightly - see previous blog!)
Hot footed it to the Guildhall, H being more
snappish & things (possibly something to do with the arm I was
twisting to get him there. He was much better after a visit to
their loos) & had a wonderful evening of wonderful music by
wonderful composers played by a wonderful orchestra conducted by a
really nice guy who looks as if he was enjoying the music as much as we
were. Only thing was, after all that worrying, it was me dozing off, not H! First towards the end of the first half, so the Interval brought coffee. Then again during the Beautiful Blue Danube. (Which, in Hungary at least, is a muddy brown. Maybe it's different in Vienna. Maybe Strauss had an up-to-date Poetic Licence!)
Oh, and a wonderful soloist - Andrea Bogner, who was
wearing what looked very much like Pronuptia circa the late 80s - early
90s! (Oyster white, crinoline with hoops, off the shoulder with
short sleeves.) Sang like a dream though, specially the Voices of
Spring Waltz.
And we got not one but two encores, count
them. A quick storm through the Thunder & Lightning Polka
then the Radetsky March - with audience participation. From what
I remember of my 'O' Level 19th Century European History, General
Radetsky was a right butcher - or commanded some. But he was also
a hero of the Austro-Hungarian Empire - so that got him the March.
Then another brisk march home. It wasn't cold,
honestly, once you could get out of that chilly North wind. No
frost this morning - told you it wasn't cold. Out in the garden I
have snowdrops coming up (know they're snowdrops cos there's a label by
them saying 'Snowdrops!) Daffodils etc are coming through, the
Winter Jasmine has some definitely yellow buds on it. Flowers any
day now & I can get in the silk forsythia sprays I have out there
early winter to brighten that part of the yard. Further
expressions of General w00tness!
Hmmmm, would they be anything like:
- :) ;o)
*____* etc?
More potterment today, though I hope to go swimming
& meet with the local Together group. Together is a support
group for those 'living with mental illness', which is where I come
in. Currently I'm fine, & intend staying that way, but last
year was largely written off due to a major Depression. Like the
Together publicity says, we "live with mental illness". Sometimes
we're well, sometimes we're mental. So it's kinda 'the
Lunatics are taking over the Assylum" but WTH - we are the ones
who know what it's like 'living with mental illness'. We are the
experts on our conditions - we have them 24/7 for starters. How
many years do you think psychiatric staff would have to study &
work to gain equivalent experience - of even last year's worth of mine?
*Climbs down from High Horse, via Soap Box!*
Time for the (Quick! Run & hide!) 'Joke'
of the day. This was Jamie Crick's from this morning's Easier
Breakfast on Classic fM. There now, no elephants til Tuesday at
this rate.
Q: What do you get if you cross Winter with a Vampire?
A: Frostbite!
Y'all have a good day now!
Went to the pub for a few hours this morning - having first taken Jade into Cutprice so I could leave it in safety long enough to get a padlock for the chain I found for it. Now I can leave it safely chained up. w00t! Apparently the reason they meet there is that it's a 'Spoon' & so serves good 'breakfasts'. Cos seeing as how most of us are on psychiatric drugs we shouldn't be consuming alcohol at the same time! Interesting meeting. I had two cappuccini & got a lunch date for next Thurday, with Dunc. Now, maybe, H will decide he does need to come see the Psych with me that day!
Then wandered round the shops & market, having first, finally, remembered to visit the bank & pay in the checks I've been carting forgetfully around ever since well before Christmas. Got a nice chenille cardigan and, among other things, a Happy Bunny! More expressions of General w00tness! !O{) (This character, whomever he is, has a 'tash!)
Also got a 'Groovy Chick', which is blonde, for D when I next see her!
