David Who? It's all about Matt Smith now.

Right, sorry this is 3 hours late or whatever, but turns out it's the parents anniversary today (yeah, apparantly I'm supposed to know these things), so we were at a restaurant for a large portion of the evening. Thankfully, it went without any arguments, there was a small disagreement towards the beginning of the meal which looked like it might have been about to become a full scale argument, but it was averted, somehow.

I didn't have my laptop near when I was watching, so I'll just make a random, unstructured points from what I remember. (I'm also sort of brainstorming with Megan at the moment, which is helping me remember stuff, but also confusing me slightly, so sorry if everything seems a bit too random)

The Eleventh Hour

1) definitely the best episode I've seen for a looooong time. Probably since Blink. Which is of course, another Moffat episode. For numerous reasons.
2) Matt Smith: amazing. Describing him, he sounds just like Tennant's doctor, but something is so different. He's so refreshing. It's nice not to have someone moping around the screen. And he seems very trustable, which is good.
3) I have a fear of eyeballs. So the guards and space ships freaked me out big time, but apart from that it was good to see some new monsters.
4) I liked the way he (Moffat) combined new and old ideas, with more emphasis on the new. The fact that old bits (the perception filter) made a reappearance helped remind me that it was still Doctor Who, but improved moved on.
5) I liked how they showed Tennant in the montage of Doctors at the end. I know they wouldn't exactly leave him off, but the fact that he was there helped show his time really is over.
6) Amy Pond -Child: I'm surprised how similar in looks they managed to find actresses for her. I thought they looked quite similar. I absolutely adored the young Amelia, she was soo cute, and not as whiny (or over-acting) as I usually find child actors. (Chloe Webber. URGH.) Oh and praying to Santa- soooo cute!
7) Amy Pond- Adult: I really wanted to like her, and by the end of the episode I did. However at the beginning, I found her to be a little too harsh. Not when she hit The Doctor with that cricket bat, he deserved that, but just generally she seemed a bit too uptight. She seemed pretty cool by the end though. I liked more her once her accent came back, it may have been something to do with the fake English accent which was pissing me off.
8) Amy's Boyfriend/Fiance. He's a male nurse. A male nurse. I met a male nurse my mum used to work with once. I loved him, and I love this guy too. Amazing as Matt is, he's a male nurse. I love him. Although with Moffat as the writer, it can't really be a coincidence that Amy's engaged to a Nurse and travelling with a Doctor.
9) Jeff- the two best moments of the episode revolved around this man. "Not you, the goodlooking one." and "JEFF! Get a girlfriend." I was actually about to piss myself laughing on the second one. We did have to explain it to my brother though, he's a bit of a failure of a 14 year old.
10) In reference to the above, I love that they've reintroduced humour that children won't get. This was missing throughout the entire of Tennant's reign, but was there for Ecclestones (I was quite surprised by how much it was there when I went back to rewatch), but it just.. I don't know what it does, but it's good. And I haven't laughed so much at Doctor Who for a looong time.
11) The plot was clever. Sometimes it was slightly too clever, and it moved on too fast for me to think about it at the time, but looking back now, I understand it all. I'm hoping that was just because it was the first episode of the series, so they had a lot of stuff to cover.
12) I like the characters in Amy's life on Earth THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU STEPHEN MOFFAT FOR CREATING A CHARACTER WHO DOESN'T LIVE IN LONDON. Sorry, that just made me so, so, so incredibly happy that I actually feel like screaming it out very loud. And as a lifelong village resident I am very happy that she comes from a village too, although mine is no where near as pretty as hers. But yes, the characters aren't half as annoying as the other characters'. Apart from Wilfred, he was amazing. But even Rose's family were incredibly annoying. And Mickey was cool, but he didn't half annoy me sometimes.
13) All those references to worlds colliding, or whatever, and you will be pleased to here I didn't say Rose once. I'm a changed person.
14) Apparantly we are going to see other rooms of the Tardis, which excites me quite a bit. My brother was angry that they changed the inside (I was slightly annoyed at them changing the outside, because I had just about perfected the art of drawing the old ones, but I like how it looks more retro), but I liked it. New screwdriver looks cool, but I'm slightly frustrated because my brother's toy one which keeps "appearing" in my bedroom is now out of date. And I'm a bit too old to be visiting Toys 'r' Us for a new one now.
15) I don't quite understand how Amy trusts the Doctor to get her back by the morning when so far, he's been 12 and 2 years late.
16) I love love love how crazy the Doctor is now. I squeed when he was in the fire engine. And the fish fingers and custard. Tennant's doctor seems like mr average comparitively.
17) The jury's out on 11/Amy. I don't know yet. But, I didn't start shipping Ten/Rose until... well,I don't have a specific date, it was somewhere between 2.03 an 2.08. Well, that's hardcore shipping, I think a part of me shipped them from the beginning, but the first episode I remember being a bit obsessed with them was 2.08, but I know it must've started sometime before then. 2.09 was when I first said the words "David Tennant's hot" (I'm not crazy, that episode aired during a friend's birthday party so I remember it vividly).

Um, I feel like I should be able to say more about an hour long episode, but I really can't remember much anymore. Maybe I'll make another post, maybe not. It depends on whether I can cope with the giant eyeballs again and rewatch. Maybe after I've read a few more reviews things will come flooding back.

I'm going to browse some communities now, see if some 11th Doctor icons are up yet.
And, my review for next weeks episode will be a week late, I be abroad when it airs, coming back the day before episode 3 is on. Oh, brainwave! I may post the episode 2&3 reviews together. Oh, I'll stop writing every thought which comes into my head now. Ciao!

ETA: I founds an icon!! Mum thinks he has rather beautiful hands, and I must say, I am inclined to agree.

famage- family for the less common among, reviews, doctor who
