Asaf and I ventured out to Pike’s Place on a gloriously sunny Saturday. The day’s adventures turned into an archetype of Seattle: organic food, coffee, tourists, and misguided politics.
What better way to celebrate nice weather than an anti-Israel protest? This is downtown by the Vietnam War Memorial. War crimes! War crimes!
First: coffee, local art, and baristas. the key to any Seattle-ite’s heart.I think the pink picture if Annie Lennox, Asaf thinks it’s Obama. Thoughts?
We then set about making friends (how very Middle East-erly) in the Market. Todo list: Produce/Herbs, Cheese/Wine, Fish.
This is Jeff, of Frank’s produce, with his bright and cheerful mint. He helped us design the menu for the evening (black cod + creamy dijon, salmon + white truffle oil, apple/radish/arugula salad, gold/red beets+ chevre, roasted brussel sprouts, mint/raisin/couscous).
Yosef, from the deli. We tried the most intensely flavored cheese (Le Poteaupre, middle left of the picture)- tangy, earthy, mushroom-y, bitter, and sour. Asaf loved it, I almost gagged. La doleur exquisite, indeed. We left with fresh chevre and a nice Chianti.
Final stops…
:)
