Things have settled into an unhappy pattern in my little social circle. How it took me this long to realize the extent of it speaks to my general obliviousness, and the fact that I've actually had a lot of fun the past few weeks. The happiness that pervaded the heady days of summer is gone. Now getting more than three of us in a room is a miracle explained only by the pervasive effects of alcohol.

In the summer, though there were troubles on all fronts, there was at least a core group. If one of us were down, they were surrounded by friends. We conspired on patios and in back rooms, and the world was nothing we couldn't handle. Relationships were falling apart, careers were being decided, and the general downturn in the real estate market had was taking its toll on a few of us, but everything was somehow awesome. That, and I'm pretty sure everyone was getting laid on a semi-regular basis. What can I say, the body wants what it wants. Now though, now...

Christian has been at odds with the group since we decided Justine was staying around even after they had had their fun. He's since been conspicuously absent. I'll meet him for a few drinks now and then, and despite the fact that he's a womanizing asshole, he's still one of the funniest, most charming fuckers I've ever met. I still don't understand the extent of the whole Andy/Justine/Christian thing, but I'm happier that way, so I'll leave it be. Oh, and for some reason Andy decided he doesn't like Justine's best friend Autumn anymore, so we get to add another layer of awkwardness.

Then there's the thing between me and Andy. So...he used to date Molly, but that's ended a couple of times because she gets REAL crazy around that guy. I ran into her at my ten year reunion, we kind of hit it off, and she got my number to hang out whenever she was in town. We do this for a while, Andy gets jealous and weird, I back off. No they've started dating, but it's also strange because I'm more or less the only person they know that actually likes both of them. So, that's fun. Oh, and I started seeing Lauren, because, well, that of course makes sense.
