So I feel like I've come a long way from my once very closed minded musical taste. Just based on my playlist on my myspace (which I live off of and you should ALL listen to because there are most likely some bands on there you've never heard of and want to...) you can see my wide range. I have techno-y pop rock, metal, emo, rock, goth, alternative ( Read more... )

A girl after my own heart. You mentioned Kelly Clarkson in your rant, and she is all for the things you complained about in the industry. She is curvy, but not skinny like most celebs, and she says she won't fall to that pressure. I'm constantly reading about her being fat and it bugs the hell out of me. Yes, she is not your typical celebrity weight, but, what everyday person is? She often goes without makeup out and about too, she says she hates having to sit in a chair and get all made up for TV, or her shows, so, why would she want to do it just going to the store or airport? She is gorgeous with makeup, and just average looking without, but yet, let a photo show up on the internet without makeup, and the vultures come out saying how ugly she is. ARGGGH, can't win.
As far as writing her own music, she didn't have much choice signing that contract, it was after she won Idol. Yes, she didn't have to go on that show, and because she did, she ended up with that contract, but, even without knowing what was said in the contract, I doubt it said she COULDN'T write, they just don't want her too, because they said it wasn't commercial enough. Which it wasn't, but, her writing was better than most of the stuff written for her. Hopefully the day will come, when she can get out of that contract, and get with a label that will support her writing, because her last cd "my December" was a gem. Maybe not "beat" wise, but, her lyrics were awesome, and it came from "her" heart, that's all that matters to me, it's real. It could've sold well if her label (Clive Davis) didn't trash it, and not promote it, because they were pissed that she didn't succumb to their wishes. They had to prove she couldn't sell without their "HIT" songwriters of the moment. So,they didn't promote it. Just about every critics review of "My December" cd, was great, but, the label said it wasn't what people want to hear. F*CK them!

Haha, I think my response (rant) was longer than your original post, sorry :)

No, thank you for the big response :-)!!

It makes me appreciate her all the more. I love her too, for all the reasons you listed. I love what she stands for. There definitely needs to be more celebs like her.

I'm going to have to check out the "My December" album...

And just out of curiosity... how did you come across my journal? It's nice to see other people actually read this nonsense, haha :-)

I was googling something about Kelly, and your rant popped up. Yes, you have to check out My December, like I said, it doesn't have the catchy dance beats like Breakaway had, but, from start to finish,it's better lyric wise, it's a story of things she went through in the last couple of years. It'll probably be hard to find a physical copy of it now, because they didn't ship many cd's I don't think, but, you could probably get it from Amazon, or DL off i-tunes.

Go to youtube, and look up "Kelly Clarkson Irvine", and you'll hear one of the last tracks (before the bonus track Chivas)on My December. She wrote it after a concert in Irvine, when she was just so burned out, she sat on a bathroom floor and cried, she wrote this as a prayer to God. The whole cd isn't slow like this song, but, it'll show you the realness of her lyrics.
