Okay, it turns out I was racing against myself.
Near heart failure caused by my viewing being booked in one name (that of H, the support worker) and my deposity phonecall just now being in another (mine). While I was on hold on the phone to Bannits, the agency (while they were finding someone to take my details) a well-meaning someone else from their office who knew that H and I had just seen it rang H to warn her that someone else (ie me) was very interested in the property so if her friend (ie, me, again, unbeknownst to office) wanted to hold it she'd better get in touch ASAP.
All I knew was that I was on hold for an inordinate length of time, and that as soon as I'd got off the phone from Bannits, I had several missed calls and a frantic call straight away from H, telling me to ring Bannits as soon as I could!! else I mightn't have a chance w/ the property.
So then, with my heart in my mouth, I had to wait for a call back from Bannits to tell me whether my deposit had gone through, or whether a competitor who'd rung at the same time as me had bagsied the place first.
Little knowing that I was my own competitor.
Sorry if that makes no sort of sense, I'm still barely breathing.
But but but I've put down a deposit on a flat in Llandaff!!! DSS and cat friendly. Described as a 'ground floor flat' but actually a sort of one floor annexe on the end of a terrace, so it's effectively a semi-detached bungalow, w/ own front door. Small slabbed garden all to itself w/ a (currently v. weedy & apparently uninhabited) fishpond!!! Smallish bedroom but w/ enough space for a double bed, and a pretty big built in storage cupboard, bathroom (w/ bath and shower) adjoining onto bedroom, small but decent kitchen, and a pretty enormo living room.
I know I shouldn't get my heart set on it until contracts have been dealt w/, but it's so close to perfect, and in
LLANDAFF... !
Now to see whether the Housing Benefits section will cover enough of the rent to make it affordable.
