I'm halfway through Oliver Twist and I can't see how anyone made the leap from the book to "jaunty musical". I've been avoiding reading it for a long time because I did love Oliver! when I was a kid, and I didn't want to spend 600 pages earwormed with "Oliver, Oliver, never before has a boy wanted more". I watched a pair of gloriously bad movies tonight.

The first was Abominable Snowman. I figured with Peter Cushing in the lead if it sucked it would at least suck excellently. It did. Forrest Tucker seems to not understand the concept of microphones and PROJECTS like he's in a very large theater, no matter the emotional content of the scene. ( Read more... )

I was up all night the other night coughing, so I ended up reading all of Briar Rose by Jane Yolen. Which is an intense and intensely upsetting book, so now I'm reading Orlando Furioso, because Medieval Epic Romance satires pass for literary comfort food in my world. It is desperately silly.
