So Mom was here. That was pretty good, although she kept giving me sad looks because my life sucks. We had a hard time figuring out things to do, given the limitations of her checkbook (because she's paying my bills now) and my car (it's a bit scarier than usual. I'm hoping it's the air filter and not the serp belt).
Her flight on Thursday got cancelled and she got one three hours later to SNA, so we ended up wandering around South Coast Plaza. It's nice to just wander around and talk, and the shopping habits of the 1% are good conversation fodder.
Friday we went to the Queen Mary. We did a self-guided audio tour and went into the Princess Diana exhibit, which was a private ephemera collection and thus extremely eclectic. They had a bunch of other UK royals shit there, including George VI's coronation doublet. He wasn't that big of a guy, really. Lots of personal correspondence from everyone, Queen Mary and George V all the way down to Wills and Harry. We had a drink in the Observation Bar, which is very Art Deco. The giant flat screen in the corner kind of ruins it.
Saturday we went to Target to stock me up on paper towels and vitamins and things. Given both of us were sighing about the nice weather, I drove us over to the El Dorado Nature Center. They have some nice, gentle trails to wander through. We didn't see much wildlife, an egret and some lizards. Got surprised by a garter snake slithering across the trail. The flowers were pretty, and it was exactly the perfect temperature to be walking outside. After we came home we walked over to DQ and had Blizzards, then came home again and had popcorn for supper. Bad us.
Sunday was proper grocery shopping, perishables and such, then Mom had to go home. Neither of us was very happy about that.
I've got an interview with AppleOne on Thursday. Their application is intrusive and terrible and I'm seriously questioning if I want to deal with them. If I wasn't desperate, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I did in the process.
Today, I got invited to the Final Selection round of interviews for the Santa Monica College job. \o/ So next Monday at 10, have happy thoughts for me.
Class for summer semester started today. We've got a 3-5 page paper with references and an assignment due on Saturday, plus a graded discussion question and some sort of background/skills assessment. Also 40 pages of reading, none of which are from our three very expensive textbooks. At the moment, the website to download the readings is erroring out on all of the papers. I think I would hate this even if I wasn't burned out.
