My supervisor is back from vacation, which means I don't have to spend all day at the circ desk. YAY! Even when there's nearly nobody around, having to be "on" or be ready to be on all the damn time is really tiring. So is listening to that know-it-all douche who sits at the Bloomberg terminal all day and talks to anyone who sits down beside him.
I got a project! I have to make Excel graphs! Unfortunately the data is tabled in a more complex way than I know how to communicate to Excel! So I get to make lots of lists first! *\o/*
Boss is still bored. This morning before the GIS Introduction to Maps (or whatever it was actually called) seminar, he was walking back and forth through the (magnetic) security gates with the magnets he uses on his whiteboard. I told him to put a couple in his mouth and see what it did to his fillings. Oddly, he declined.
The map seminar, yes. It was supposed to get us thinking about information spatially. I thought it was not well organized. The guy started by having us draw maps of our favorite books. Having not decided I was even going until the last minute, I hadn't picked a book. Also, who the hell asks a room full of library people to pick a single favorite book? I thought Fellowship of the Ring for a map seminar would be cheating the same way writing a paper on Quenya's evolution into Sindarin for a linguistics class would be, so I went with The Dark Is Rising. Because Huntercombe is basically a postage stamp with all of three locations, I drew a character relational map. It sucked, but luckily nobody called on me to explain it. Pretty much everyone else took a straight-up geographical map of their books, except the one person who drew a refrigerator diagram for Portnoy's Complaint. The organizer spent the rest of the time trying to teach us how to use ARCGIS. I'm still not sure if anyone got anything besides an ARCGIS account out of that seminar, but I may be too advanced of a nerd for geography to be revelatory.
What did you all think of the People's Choice Awards? I thought it was really poorly organized, the categories they chose to present instead of merely announce seemed randomly selected, and the "Beth can sing, no really" bit went on about one song too long. Also, Tim Gunn's Walgreen's commercial was very WTF. But the girls looked FABULOUS. And I think they did a good job, even if Kat didn't seem to have a lot to do. Maybe they were going easy on her so her finger stayed wrapped? I was disappointed by the black bandage cover, BTW. If that had been me, I'd have put something waterproof in the middle of the gauze and spray painted the outside gold. Anyway, you could tell MPK was involved with the writing, which was a combination of inane and gross.
I missed the girls on Queen Latifah yesterday (I'm sure it was adorable), but they were straight up charming on Conan Tuesday night.
