I. AM. DYING.

BOOM, DEAD.

I READ THIS ENTIRE THING WITH A HUUUUGE SMILE ON MY FACE AND I'M STILL SMILING AND THIS IS EXACTLY 110% WHAT I WANTED ONLY IT'S MORE.

OK. ALRIGHT. FROM THE TOP.

Sometimes Leo wakes up in the morning confused by the quiet.

Right from the beginning I love this because I feel like it's so dead on, the fact that when they're playing, they have so much to do and everyone wants a photo or an autograph or a soundbite or another goal, and then when they stop playing, most everything else stops with it, and they're not entirely prepared for it. And that's exactly what I imagine their retirement to be like-- different, unsettling, but not bad. Just new.

but he hadn’t been able to keep up at Barcelona anymore, hadn’t been able to offer them what they needed and he wasn’t ready to stop, at that time didn’t think there would ever be a day he would be ready to stop [...] He’d gotten to play until he didn’t want to anymore [...] THIS IS LEO MESSI IN MY HEART. THIS IS HIM. I really feel like playing is something he ( ( ... )

WELL I SMILED THE WHOLE TIME I WAS READING THIS COMMENT SO WE ARE EVEN

seriously, i pretty much live for leo/villa. in my fanfic life i mean. like, no one else even came to mind when i saw "leo/whoever." (the same isn't true for villa but whatever he's a special snowflake)

it almost hurt to write about leo playing somewhere else, but i think he will. i don't want to see him on a bench pouting any more than i do now. BUT HE WILL ALWAYS COME BACK TO US

I;M GLAD YOU LIKED IT THAT WAS NERVE-WRACKING, thanks for the lovely comment ok bye

I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS. Messilla=<333333, and the way you write them, just....gah. Seriously, thank you so much for this fic!!!!!

I love how you managed to make such a daily kind of event--Leo wakes up, drinks some coffee, sits around with David--so so very poignant. Maybe it's the culé talking here, but I had this lump in my throat when I read this part--

He’d kept up with Barcelona, of course he had, but for a long time it had stung too much to watch too closely, to see someone else wearing the blaugrana number 10, or number 8, or number 7, to see strangers kissing his crest.

--because I kinda feel the same way thinking about it, just like a little fraction of how Leo might feel. It just kinda...hurts, you know? Thinking about Barca without all of them, without freaking MESSI. And I absolutely cannot imagine how tough it's gonna be for Messi to grow old and not be Messi anymore...also, you killed me with David and his knee. ;__ ( ... )

thank you so much for commenting! i agree, i did not like thinking about leo leaving barcelona. at all. but it won't be for a long time so i'll deal with it someday. and omg i know, how is there not more messi/villa, they are everything that is good in the world. ok /end ramble, thank you again!

Damn. I expected to be knocked over by a truckload of angst, but you made it sort of seep sweetly in instead, which was better but also worse and in any case wonderful. I think the saddest thing is that what you've written is actually one of the best case scenarios - them living wisely and quietly and secure in each other.

But Rafa and Thiago and Coach Xavi, and Villa going grey at the temples, awww! Love is all you need!
