Week 2 - Sunday

There was sunshine today.
And blue sky.
I was reading and I caught movement on the tack-board in front of my desk and I realized it was light. My crystals were swaying and reflecting light for the first time since I arrived. I looked out the window to see a patch of blue sky and light breaking through the ever constant overcast. I set the solar-powered rotating crystal I got for Christmas spinning for the first time and smiled at the quiet, consistent whine of the tiny turning gears. When I turned around, there were rainbows all over my walls.
And suddenly I could breathe again.

It was too bad that the sun set again so soon.

I got a phone, if you haven't seen my last facebook status. Its tiny and adorable and functional. I'm hoping it will prove useful during my time here. My several attempts to buy the thing online failed so then I went into town with my flatmates and the one American girl I was able to get contact info from I bought one for cheaper. I have some new tubberware and a cup and more food. I should have a nice little supply now. It's funny. If I was in the states, I'd just grab a couple cans of Spaghettios and whatever and I'd have back-up meals for however long and I wouldn't worry. Here, however, their canned stuff just... isn't up to par with the states. It makes me sad.
I handled raw chicken for the first time the other day. And Beef. That was gross. It was like when we dissected a lamb-lung in middle school... or elementary school... Uhg. It felt gross. I froze the chicken. The beef didn't look too happy, so I cooked some of it up right away and then today I cooked up the rest of it, 'cause I just didn't want to leave it like that. I think I did a pretty good job. I had to kinda fry it because it was not gonna grill nicely in the oven... so it's kinda soaked in butter... the Gnocchi is too, but that's supposed to be. I got have Gnocchi! XD After all the meat I had today, though, I couldn't eat the leftovers so I guess I'll be having it three days in a row.
I went out last night. We went out shopping, came back, did stuff, then went out again to the club. I thought I was dressed pretty nice for going out clubbing, but apparently I wasn't award of the dress code, yet. It was rediculous! Okay, so guys mostly wear colored shirts (I even saw some ties) or, failing that, a black shirt. The girls were mostly all skanks: black, tiny, really short pencil skirts, and HIGH heels (there may or may not be leggings involved). Also, no one brings coats so you get outside and see all these drunken skanks out freezing, and I'm secretly laughing in my winter coat. I was a little obnoxious to dance while watching my winter coat, but the 2nd place we went had a coat check. Oh! There was a way to get around this supposed dress code and that was if you dressed up in a group. There was a group of people wearing matching red t-shirts, a group of people with panda bear face paint, a group with random stuff on them, a huge group of smirfs (which was amazing to see. They all had the smirf hat!) and a small group of Newsies. It was weird...
I was told that myself, and my American friend, Cat, had to drink 20 shots (drink our age). We both decided that this would kill us. However, the place we went first to 'get pissed' (called 'Hustle') had this '6 shots for 6 pounds' thing so we were cooerced into at least having three each. I, of course, then win this extra shot thing so we each had 4 each and a VK Blue (which was no as good as the VK cherry). Let's see... For shots I had a 'horny devil' which had something vile in it that made it burn the whole way down... uhh... Three sec or something... Anyway, that was terrible. Had a 'burning smirf' just to say I did; This 'polarbear mint' thing because I just trying to throw something in there and i thought mint was a good idea, but I never want mint and alcohol together again, and then I had a 'B52' only because I had seen it in the back of a student cookbook. It wasn't bad, but shots are still disgusting.
So, yeah, Cat and I managed to get by the rest of the night without anyone noticing that we hadn't gotten any more drinks. After dancing a bit in Hustle, we got 'chips' and moved onto 'Sugarhouse' where we lost everyone for a good ten minutes. The music was alright. I didn't like the dj at all. The transitions between the songs were terrible and he kept popping in to shout something that no one could understand and throw everyone off beat. There was also this terrible fog machine. At least the one at 'Cuba' was scented. This was was just the standard gross fog and it filled up a quarter of the room.
We were out 'till 3AM. It probably would've been longer, but I protested that this was our first time out and had to be broken in slowly. The rest of the english kids all stayed up until 6 or something. I was happy to sleep.
Another boy story, while I'm at it. Nothing big. While at the club, I figured that since everyone else was drunk, I could probably do something random and no one would care because everyone was drunk. I didn't do anything random, but there was this one guy sitting to the side, by himself- he couldn't have had any idea what he was doing there because he had a batman shirt on. His physical features weren't that bad, but he had this earlength bowl cut that he parted directly down the middle so that he made me think of a young Snape. It was late enough that I planned to, when we left, to stop by him on the way out and just change his part to the side and be all 'aw, there you are, love'. It probably would've made his day. Unfortunately, he realized that he had no idea what he was doing there before we left and got up and left before I could anything. I probably should've stopped him and fixed his part anyway, but, since it's a University own bar, I've decided that if I happen to see him at school any time in this next week, I'll still fix his part. Past that it might be weird to stop him and be like 'hey! you're that guy I saw at the club 2 months ago! I was creepily watching you and I remembered you.'
Yay- not quite my style, although, knowing me, I'll probably still know him on sight next time I see him and still want to fix his part.

So I woke up at noon today, made my meat, read... there was a bit of sunlight that inspired my little poem.... and I'm gonna retire before my mind begins to further enter the realm of the metaphysical.

Love all
