Elias is here!!!

I gave birth to the most beautiful baby boy I have ever seen!

I was induced on my due date, September 28, 2009 at 11:30 a.m.  Around 3 p.m.  they started the pytocin  (the contraction drug) and things were off to a good start.  Around 6 p.m. I was given Nubain for pain management, which is a narcotic and made me really loopy for about 10 hours.

At 9 p.m. they said I was far enough along to get an epidural.  That was no fun since it took 3 tries to get it in and it didn't work correctly.  Then the anestesiologist had the nerve to lecture me because I was a smoker (even though I quit) and Hugh is a smoker.  He made me cry and I was really close to killing him, had he not had a needle on my spine.

Labor was long.  Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday the 29th, I got my epidural redone and it actually worked!  I passed out for about 3 hours.  When I woke up it was time to push.  I pushed for 35 minutes total and was told to wait because Elias was coming too fast and Doctor Jakacki wasn't in the room yet!  LOL

At 3:27 p.m. on September 29, 2009 Elias Isaac Campbell was born.  He weighed in at 8 lbs 12 oz and measured 22 inches long.  I had a big baby!  He scored an 8 on the 1 minute APGAR test (points deducted for color and fluid in the lungs) and a 9 on the 5 minute APGAR (for coloration).

There were some funny moments in labor.  Nikki, Garrett, Lydia, Tom, and of course Hugh were all there in the labor room (albeit at different times) to help keep me calm.  I think the Nubain was a constant source of entertainment for a bit because a loopy Brittney is truly a sight.  Tom made me a sign that said "Breathe Woman!" and it actually helped.  LOL  Oh, and Elias was born to a iTunes mix I made and the song that played at the moment of his birth was "Rainbow Connection" by Kermit the Frog.  :D

Now I truly know the meaning of bed rest and sleep deprivation.  I'm having a hard time recovering so they put me on bed rest for a while.  But it's worth it so I can take care of my baby boy.  I feel so blessed to not only have an awesome son, but a wonderful husband to take care of me and Eli.  Hugh is turning out to be a great dad and that makes me love him all the more.  :)

eli, life, health, love, good days
