The Ship's Closet - DONATIONS - You freaking did it!
So I check my Paypal today and someone (who shall remain nameless because of all the crazies out there) donated $50, which means I GET THE GODDAMN CAMERA.
My full gushing and repeated thank yous will come in the form of a video that I will film using MY NEW GODDAMN CAMERA, but right this moment I will offer my initial thanks in this post.
When some fans told me to take donations for the camera, I was dubious about the whole thing because 1. My absolute worst fear is that you guys will think I'm taking advantage of you, and 2. I can't seem to understand that people will pay for what they want. When it comes to people paying for anything else it makes sense, but when I think about people paying to see me my brain shorts out (probably because entertaining people for money is my dream and I have this stupid idea that it's not supposed to be this "easy" to have the beginnings of a career). But I set up donations anyway because, fortunately, I'm surrounded by smart people who tell me when I'm being an idiot.
$507 in donations for a girl with a show on Youtube about gay people in space is kind of ridiculously awesome, don't you think? If that's not a show of faith in someone, then I don't know what is. Nothing speaks an opinion like where people spend their money, and when someone drops $80 to get a talk show host a camera, I'd say that's a pretty strong opinion. I guess you guys like me or something. I like you too. In a non-creepy way.
Here's the process of getting the camera:
The old card I had associated with my Paypal account expired, and I have a new one. In order to get the new card linked to the account, they have to do a test deposit and withdrawal which will take a couple of days because for whatever reason it couldn't instantly confirm my bank (it's Murphy's Law with this show, I swear). When that's done, I get to move the money to my account, and of course that takes 3-4 days.
So it's looking like it'll be about a week before I actually get my hands on the thing. But the time is nigh! I get the goddamn camera! THE SHIP'S CLOSET FINALLY MAKES A FULL RETURN!!!
THIS CALLS FOR A CELEBRATION!!!!
