I thought it was time for another blog update, but I think I'll mostly just write what I've been writing in my personal journal. But that should still update you guys a little bit. This is from yesterday:
I have journaled ridiculous amounts today. I've written three entries in my internship journal, three or four in my BES journal, and now I'm writing in here. Good grief.
Today we went to Greenwich. We rode the boat up the River Thames, then Eric orientated us and we were on our own. Sarah, Lisa, Laurel and I went first to the Royal Observatory. The walk up the hill was beautiful, and it made me want to see it again on a nicer day.
At the Royal Observatory, I stood in two places at once. It was a very "A Walk to Remember" moment, although sadly missing Shane West. But, as any good tourist would do, I straddled the prime meridian, with one foot dutifull planted in the eastern hemisphere and the other in the western.
After we made our way back into Greenwich, we hit up the markets, where we didn't get anything but cold. On our way to the market, we'd passed a shop promising "Greenwich's Best Coffee," so we thought we'd give it at ry.
I didn't get anything, but Lisa and Laurel did. The owner sent us down into the basement, where the seating area was, and we were greeted by '70s furniture, mood lighting, and two booths nestled back into the wall, bathed in soft pink light.
We, of course, had to sit in one of the booths, which we called the "Tunnel of Love." Ther was a mysterious hole in the ceiling we half expected dancers (or snakes or monkeys) to come out of. And there was a space heater. According to L&L, the coffee didn't taste like coffee at all (and Laurel's had some sort of skin on the top).
Shortly after that we left Greenwich and rode teh DLR to Canary Wharf, where we caught the Tube. Canary Wharf felt a little like downtown Minneapolis, which was very weird to find in London.
So, there is an insightful look into how utterly fascinating my travel journal is. I've just gotten back from the Portobello Market, which was really awesome but completely exhausting. And I'm going to see "Wicked" tonight, which will totally kick ass. Tomorrow its a tour of Bath, Stonehenge and Windsor, and then back to the grind for three days. I love my four day weekends.
