Got my visa! Yay!

I got my UK visa!
I was so excited to to get it that I ripped it open right then and there at the post office counter.
But when I opened it up, I was a bit disappointed to see that it's only good for six months. I was so intent on getting the visa itself, that I never checked how long my EEA National Family Permit would be valid.

Thank you! I was so relieved. Now I just have to get my dog in (a harder process than my own but one I've already started)
Are you applying for an EEA family permit, too or another type?
Either way, best of luck to you with yours :)

My goodness, does that mean you have to pay a new fee every six months!? That could get seriously expensive!

No, luckily this EEA Family Permit is free except for postal costs (5 Euro) Could be it doesn't even cost that once I'm in the the UK and have to renew it. :)
The six month thing is just a bit of a pain in the ass... if you know what I mean.

Yup. How far in advance do you need to plan the renewals?

That's exactly what I plan to find out come Monday!
I was hoping somebody here would have some info, but being an American who's married to a German and seeking a UK visa.. I've yet to find anybody in my same position.

just wanted to clarify on the EEA Permit... that's your initial entry document to the UK, good for six months. Then after you are in the UK you need to file an EEA2 form, which will give you what's called a "residence card" for family members of EEA citizens in the UK. That residence card is good for five years, so you won't be making applications every six months, just the one. After five years, you'll file the EEA4, which will give you permanent residence in the UK. Hope that clears things up for you.

Oh I think I love you. I was hoping somebody here could help me!
That sounds so much better than applying every six months.
Thank you! I'll bookmark this.
