I've always previously travelled to the US on a visa but this time I am going as a visitor under the Visa Waiver programme. So today I went to check-in online for my flight tomorrow, only to be told that I needed to register under the ESTA scheme (which I did know about, I just forgot). The airline website gave the link, said it would take 15 minutes, I would get email confirmation and then be able to check-in. I followed the link, filled in the form, got online approval (which I printed out) then... nothing.
I'm not convinced that ESTA have my email address to send anything to me. Should I expect the airline to email saying they've received confirmation? I've tried checking-in several times since and still get the same message. I would really like to be able to check-in online because there are always huge queues at Manchester.
Anyone been through this and know what to expect?
ETA: All fine. I'm at Manchester and through check-in and security quicker than I have ever known it here. I told the guy at check-in I'd tried to do it online and he rolled his eyes, so I assume that it is something of a known problem. Thanks, everyone.
Oh, also, my knitting needles made it through security without any problem, which was something else I wasn't sure about.
