Dumb question, but....

After living in England for four years (military dependent), I've recently started the mind-boggling process of getting information on immigration to England. One thing I haven't really been able to find information on, however....

my significant other served time for a felony about a decade ago. Would this hinder, or bar our process if his record has been spotless since?
