A new Added Friend was involved in a recent school shooting scare. Luckily, no one was hurt. School officials responded promptly with a lock-down. After expressing my concern and relief that no one was threatened with violence or actually shot, merely inconvenienced, I wrote:

After a hellacious quarter at grad school, where I fought the OOP programming and the OOP programming almost won, I lived to fight another day. I'll probably get a "WTF, A Student, you get an academic warning, you rotter!" but that isn't a huge cause for concern. The BBC recently released a list of the Top 200 Books. I think you can assume that they are not all supposed to be recent works (i.e., Top 200 of 2006) once you look at the list, which is a shame, but it's an interesting list for bibliophiles.
