Jeff and I took the plunge and hired a babysitter and now that we are able to have some semblance of a social life, we decided to double date with Stacy & Scott and hit up the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival.
I've always loved the festival. I used to volunteer before my BFF moved to Ottawa (now no one would volunteer with me!) so this is the first time I've ever actually paid to go and the first time the rest of our crew had been to any of the shows. Incidently, the UNB Alumni association had an event going on and we got cheaper tickets to the show we were planning to see anyway. So bonus for us!
We took the kids to the free Congo Square family concert to see a bit of the show. They were both pretty cranky by the time we got there and the weather wasn't exactly ideal but they got to listen to some music at least. We saw Eric Fresia and the Offspring and a bit of TJ Wheeler (who was really good!)
In the evening, we took in the show at the Mojo tent featuring the George Street Blues Project, Bonerama and Ana Popovic (this year's headliner). The show was awesome! Really high energy for sure! The George Street Blues Project are a local band and kicked off the show followed by Bonerama who are from New Orleans. They have a really unique sound...mostly a brass band but with drums and guitar. They did covers of Hendrix and Black Sabbath (I guess...Scott and Stacy pointed it out. Jeff and I had no clue!) so that was pretty cool. I prefer a singing band and they were mostly instrumental but still pretty good. Then Ana Popovic FINALLY took the stage (late, I might add) so we didn't get to see much of her which was a major disappointment because she was awesome! I'm going to have to hunt down her CD I think because of course, they didn't have them there for sale. Boo!
Next year, I might splurge and get the ultimate pass or something if I can. Man, I missed going to that festival! So much fun!!!
