Well, I've successfully made it through 2 full sets of preceptorship shifts. My feet are puffy and my pelvis aches, but I feel good none the less. Last night was kind of long, but I had the entire assignment (8 patients) myself and Nathalie said I did really well. So that made me feel good :) My organization skills are coming along, now if I can start to remember to do things as I go instead of always having to go back and fill in little things on the in/out or graphics sheets I'll be all set. Handling a full assignment on nights is MUCH easier than on days, mind you...but I think I'm doing well. Nathalie made me tape on the whole assignment! Brat. I'm getting more comfortable with it though and learning what is pertinent to pass on. I'm also learning that I don't trust some of the residents. This one Dr in particular should NOT be practicing medicine. He is not competent and is actually kind of dangerous. He wanted us to give an IV bolus of 1000cc to a man who was 12L positive. Yes, I'll just run along and do that and call you when he goes into failure. And then, there's our little drug seeker whom this Dr prescribes WHOPPING doses of opioids for. I don't doubt this guy is in pain, but he's only got 3 small abscesses and Tylenol #3 would be MORE than enough. He sure as hell doesn't need schedualed Toradol, schedualed Dilauded AND schedualed Tylenol with an order for SC Dilaudid for breakthrough pain and a consult to pain services for PCA! The pain meds he's getting right now equivilent to what would be ordered for a Cancer patient (just to give an idea). Needless to say, this guy was completely SNOWED out of his tree last night. At 1am when I tried to wake him to give him his Dilaudid, he couldn't open his eyes or speak and his respirations were around 12 (and this is a 23 year old guy we're talking about here). So, I held the dose and watched him because I truly thought he might need Narcan. So yeah, he's also a diabetic and he was so zonked he didn't eat and his sugar was 4.4 in the morning. Nice. Ultimately the nurse is responsible for double checking and using judgement before following Dr's orders blindly...but this guy is going to kill someone before he's stopped. And to think, he was a full fledged physician in his home country! Craziness!

So anyway, after work I went to the market for yummy breakfast and bought some samosas. When I got home, I was soooo achey. Baby has dropped a little bit more so my pelvis is starting to hurt. Bonnie suggested I go to a chiropractor to get my hips aligned some, but I really don't trust chiropractor's work and where I already have back problems I certainly don't want to damage anything. I may, however, consider massage therapy if Jeff's insurance covers it (which I think it does). My poor feet are so puffy and my hands are starting to swell some. I haven't worn my wedding rings in weeks, but my hands feel a little tight and itchy. They're not as bad when I use a lot of lotion but they're still uncomfortable. Such is the life of a pregnant woman I guess!

Only 40 days to go! Can you believe it!?!
