before i post my family adventure, i should mention my other family adventure btwn dc and nm.
shelbyg's parents drove into la the wednesday after we flew back from dc. i was so wiped out from having no break, i went straight home from my ms office class at work and crashed, unable to meet the grants down at della terra where they were enjoying dinner and dessert. i promised thurs night, which ended up being a delicious octoberfest burger at the counter near activision. friday evening we chose to stay in and intro the parents to crispy crust pizza & wings while they watched the descendants from my previous year of screeners (still holding up rather nicely after 3 viewings).
saturday we met them down at della terra for brunch then i drove us all to the
pantages for a matinee of
the book of mormon. will purchased fantastic left orchestra seats maybe 7 rows back from the stage, so we had a perfect view. the scary mormon hell dream was the best part of an incredibly entertaining production, but i agree with others that it was not their best work. however, the spectacle was fantastic to watch, and i respect the work/layers/efforts/talent that went into all of it from conception to completion.
after escaping hollywood, we drove to beverly hills and gorged on
the stinking rose. i forget how much i love that garlic appetizer, those rolls, and that garlic concoction that sits on every table. we definitely reeked from the smell for the next 48 hrs, but i loved every minute of it.
sunday, was a little more lowkey and full of friends. we went to josh & melanie's for lunch, met their little 8 mo old daughter, aya, and enjoyed catching up since it's been ages. once back home, shelby fired up the grill, and the kleins came by for a quick visit and lego break. the movie of the evening was tinker tailor soldier spy (another screener still holding up nicely) before we said our goodbyes to the grants and hoped to see them both soon (shelby will see them for the holidays).
side note: tish has emailed monday saying hurricane sandy was leaving them with a bunch of water rising up the yard but nowhere near the levels of isabelle, so they were fine for now although they were expecting the power to go out at some point. no news since but i'll take that as good.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
